E1 carrier system
A single physical wire pair can be used to carry many simultaneous voice conversations by timedivision multiplexing. Revised and improved of the earlier American Tcarrier technology. Adopted by the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T). Widely used in almost all countries outside the US, Canada, and Japan.
E1 FRAME STRUCTURE
An E1 link operates over two separate sets of wires, usually Unshielded twisted pair or using coaxial wires. A nominal 3 volt peak signal is encoded with pulses. The line data rate is 2.048 Mbit/s (full duplex) which is split into 32 timeslots, each being allocated 8 bits in turn.
DSLAM
Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer Separates the voice-frequency signals from the highspeed data traffic and controls and routes traffic between the subscriber's end-user equipment (router, modem) and the network service provider's network. Provides routing or dynamic IP address assignment for the customers.
MDF
Main Distribution Frame (MDF or main frame) . A signal distribution frame for connecting equipment (inside plant) to cables and subscriber carrier equipment (outside plant). A termination point within the local telephone exchange.
