RESEARCH DESIGN

BY BHUPENDER KUMAR MEHTO(M.B.A)

What is it

Research design covers or frame methods and procedures of research, which

the researches is intended to carry out during research process.

Its type

There are many distinguished types of research design :EXPLORATORY( DESCRIPTIVE(Case study, naturalistic observation, survey) EXPERIMENTAL SEMI-EXPERIMENTAL( Field experiment, quasi- experiment) CORRELATIONAL(Case control study , observational study) DIAGNOSTIVE REVIEW

Research design

TYPE OF STUDY Explorative of formative Descriptive/Diagnostic Rigid design ( design must make enough provision for protection against bias and must maximize reliability. Probability sampling design (Random sampling) Pre- planned design for analysis Structured or well planned instruments Advanced decision

Overall design

Flexible design ( design must provide opportunity for considering different aspects of the problem)

1.Sample design

Non- probability sampling design ( purposive or judgmental sampling) 2.Statistical design No pre- planned design for analysis 3.Observational Unstructured instrument for collection of design data 4.Operational No fixed decision about the operational Design procedure

EXPLORATORY DESIGN
Exploratory research is a type of research conducted for a problem that has
not been clearly defined. Exploratory research helps determine the best research design, data collection method and selection of subjects.

Exploratory research often relies on secondary research such as reviewing

available literature and/or data, or qualitative approaches such as informal discussions with consumers, employees, management or competitors, and more formal approaches through in-depth interviews, focus groups, projective methods, case studies or pilot studies

It gives the answer of HOW, WHY, WHERE, WHOME AND WHEN.

DESCRIPTIVE DESIGN
Descriptive study involves only in describe the state of affairs or what is
happing.

The objective of descriptive research is to describe things, such as the market

potential for a product or the demographics and attitudes of consumers who buy the product.

The researcher do not have any control over the variables.

CORRELATIONAL DESIGN

Correlational designs are helpful in identifying the relation of one variable to

another, and seeing the frequency of co-occurrence in two natural groups.

DIAGNOSTIVE DESIGN

It helps to find out the solution of present problems facing by society or

organizations.

EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN

In this design the researched has control over the variables and this is
conducted in controlled environment and it involves the manipulation of situation ,circumstances etc.

During considering the design of research ,researcher must keep in mind that
he/she should clarify weather the research design is FLEXIBLE OR FIXED
