RAIN WATER HARVESTING

MCGM REQUIREMENTS
Rain Water Harvesting Mandatory for Buildings Completed after Oct 2002 on plots exceeding 1000 Sq. M MCGM will supply only 90 lpcd Rest 45 lpcd for Flushing and other Non Potable uses by Rain Water Harvesting

STORAGE OPTION
Non Monsoon Months : 8 Persons/ Family : 5 Total Storage : 8 X 30 X 45 X 6 = 64800 Lit = 6 m X 5 m X 2.1 M Cost @ 3.5 Rs/ Litre = Rs 226000/ Family Cost is prohibitive. Is space Available?

FEASIBLE OPTION
Small Nominal Size Storage Tank with Over Flow Connection to Open Well / Bore Well For Direct Ground Water Recharge. Water can then be abstracted back gradually as required during the year for Non Potable use.

In Mumbai, such Recharge is not Feasible at all locations. Depending on the Geology of Mumbai, It can be practiced only in the rocky Island areas and not in the portions which were filled and reclaimed
