What is Ribbon Fiber

All the 12 coloured fibres are held in the form of a ribbon by UV cured acrylate matrix. The encapsulant material is easily removable from the fibers either with industries commercial tool or by peeling the material away from the fiber

Cable Handling during Installation

The cable should be pulled or blown with maximum force of 2.5*W Kg(W-Weight of cable per Km) & recommended for the continuous monitoring of the pulling forces. Also ensure during pulling that the maximum bending radius should not be less than 20*D mm (Where D-outer dia of cable).

Laying tension

The maximum allowable tension for the optical fiber cable is specified. Lay the cable within its tension allowance.

Tension after lying

It is advisable not to apply stress to the optical fiber cable for long periods of time. Once the cables have been installed, the tension on the cable should be released for better performance of the cable.

Laying optical fiber cable

Maximum allowable tension of optical cable in order to prevent breakage of fibers and to maintain long term reliability, a maximum allowable tension is set. It is necessary to ensure that this figure in not exceeded during the laying operation. If the estimated tensions of any of the sanctions of the cable exceed the allowable value, the method of laying must be AB altered.

Advantages of Ribbon OFC over Conventional OFC

S.N. Ribbbon Fibre Cable 48F/ 96F Installation 1 Mass Fusion Splicing (12F at a time) Reduce Installation Time/Cost ( I.e 15mts. for 48F & 30mts for 96Fribbon cable) 2 Fast arrangement of ribbon fibres in the enlcosers and ease of handling. 3 No spcecial attention required for identification of ribbon 4 5 Conventional Fibre Cable 12F/24F Single Fiber Splice Required more time/cost 90mts for 12F,24F 3hrs.48F 8hrs.

Requires special care to organise the fibre in the splice trays and ultimately more time. Special attention required for identification of individual fibres Good spliceing effeciency due to less number of splice Less perfection due more number of splice More number of joints per day per machines reduce the Less number of splice per day per machines cost of installation hence few sets of splice team can be requires to maintain more number of maintained in a section splice/jointing team increases the cost Same cable diameter from 48F to 288F resulting to Different size of cable requires to maintain the maintain the similar size of duct/tools/ accessories diffrenent size of duct/tools/accessories ,mounting & clamping items. mounting, clamping Maintenance Fast to rectify the fault due to less time required to More time / skill required to resplice the joints resplice (I.e 12F at a time) due to more number of single fibres Easy to excess the broken fibre without disturbing the Difficult to locate the break in fibre in the joint other fibres closer some time live fibre gets disturb unknowingly. Compatable to splice with conventional fibres in case of Requires more time to splice indivisual fibre, branching out with normal splicing machine and other resulting more cost. splice can be done with mass splicing machine reduce
