required materials for implementing the lesson.

Why is lesson planning important

helps the teacher work out what is to

be done before the teaching/learning process takes place in the classroom.

A lesson plan acts as a record of the

work done.

Factors in lesson planning

What factors would you consider when writing a lesson plan ?

LESSON OBJECTIVES

Objectives must be: Explicit Clear Accurate Match the ability of the students in the class In accordance with the chosen curriculum specification
9

The Components of Objectives

1. An active verb 2. Criteria for performance 3. A description of the conditions under which the learning will be assessed

10

Active Verbs
Choice of verb is crucial- learning

inferred from behaviour

Verb must describe observable &

measurable behaviour
Objectives will tell students exactly

what the teacher expects

11

Criteria for performance

Objectives describe the level of performance the

teacher expect from his students. Eg. To discuss a topic- how many points must they include; what will be the length of their answer; is there a particular order to present their ideas
Should determine the quality of students

responses
Will help students prepare & teacher to plan his

teaching
12 Will be the basis for evaluation

Description of Condition
helps the teacher to plan

his/her instructional activities

the means of assessment helps student to prepare
