Man for the field and woman for the heart: Man for the sword and for the needle she: Man with the head and women with the heart: Man to command and woman to obey: All else confusion.

Every facet of our life is replete with examples of gender differentiation. Yet when it comes to work, it still surprise us. The question arises why????

I recently came across a debate on whether corporations are designed for male work force,' which set me thinking.

Gender experiences in the organizations


It often makes a great difference if you are a man or a woman Many organizations are dominated by gender related values that bias organizational life in favor of one sex over another. Organizations often segment opportunity structures job markets in ways that enable men achieve positions of prestige and power more easily than women.

Challenges for the Organization


Paucity of women at the top and middle level especially in the decision making Under representation of women Under utilization of the talent of women.

Exploration of the research


To find out the sustenance and formation of gender roles. To find out the factors responsible for gendered inequality. How to weaken the gender roles in the organization.

Case of Wipro Technology


Wipro realized that the workplace experience is not similar for all women across life stages and positions. The organizational responses too need to be different at each stage and classified in terms of exposure ,flexibility and empowerment.

Exposure: At initial stages Wipro helps by providing women employees with critical exposure, higher responsibilities and mentoring by senior leaders. Flexibility: Wipro provides flexibility and support such as extended maternity leave, half day working and role changes to help women balance their professional and personal priorities. Empowerment: A senior woman employee shares At Wipro, I was given the freedom to take decisions and not compelled to do anything without a solid underlying logic. I was given a choice of work and encouraged to experiment with different roles.

Conclusion
Though the work experiences of women do vary from those of men, organizations should steadily work towards alleviating those differences and making the work place inclusive for all.
