Certification ensures conformance with the standard and therefore interoperability Certified devices are more and more required by end users to meet their quality standards Certification process allows every vendor to benefit from the PROFIBUS experience and knowledge of the test laboratories Certification can be used for marketing and advertisement, because the product is marked as Certified in the Electronic Product Guide (EPG) (CD ROM or Internet)

How to become a test lab?
Candidate establishes environment to perform tests as described in the related guidelines Candidate applies for accreditation at PI Candidate is audited by an independent expert and result is reported to PI advisory board Board decides whether the candidate is accredited 1st accreditation is valid for 1 year Every re-accreditation is valid for 2 years

How to certify a device!
Vendor applies for an ID number from PROFIBUS International (PI)
for his device Vendor develops the PROFIBUS device and writes a GSD file Applies for Certification test at any PROFIBUS Test Lab
