Recruitment is a process to discover the sources of manpower to meet the requirements of the staffing schedule and to employ effective measures for attracting that manpower in adequate numbers to facilitate effective selection of an efficient work force.

CHARACTERISTICS
Recruitment is a process of series of activities rather than a single event. Recruitment is a linking activity as it brings together those with jobs and those seeking jobs i.e. prospective employees. The basic purpose of recruitment is to locate the sources of people required to meet job requirements and attracting such people to offer them employment.

The recruitment is an important function as it makes it possible to acquire the number and type of persons necessary for the continued functioning of the organization. Recruitment is a pervasive function as all organizations engage in recruiting activity. Recruitment is a complex function as it looks for various factors associated with it.

Step 1: Personnel Department receiving requisitions for recruitment from any department of the organization. Step 2: The Personnel department locates and develops the sources of required number and type of employees followed by identifying the prospective employees with required characteristics.
