Full service

Roaming Broker service


Same as full service however the conversion platform is managed by the CDMA carrier.

The conversion platform is managed by the CDMA carrier, but (bilateral) GSM roaming agreements are made one by one

Both the conversion platform as the GSM roaming agreements are managed internally. This is the case when the CDMA carrier also runs a GSM network.

Points of attention: For receiving calls, MSRN ranges must be implemented at home operator; Quality of carriers (selected by home operator); No SLA available on roaming partner network, always on best effort.

Voice mail
Features:
Call forwarding to voicemail system; Call forwarding available conditional and unconditional; For conditional forwarding there are several options available:
Call forwarding when busy Call forwarding when not available Call forwarding when not answered

Points of attention:
Some countries do not allow forwarding to different country code number then the country code from the sponsor operator; Unique voicemail number or one number for voice and voicemail.

SMS

Features:
Send and receive SMS between:
End users of sponsor operator (incl. inter standard roaming users) End users of SMS Interworking partners End users of home network

Points of attention:
Footprint of SMS IW partners is in most cases different than roaming footprint; Difference between CDMA and GSM regarding maximum length of message (140 vs. 160 characters); Proper working of concatenated SMS.

Data Features:
Access to GSM broadband data standards; Internet traffic can be terminated at sponsor network, customer specific traffic (eg blackberry, email) can be terminated at home network;

Points of attention:
Footprint of data roaming partners is in most cases different than the voice roaming footprint. Currently there are 4 standards of package data in GSM (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA). Not everywhere all 4 standards are available. APNs should be defined Public vs. Private IP addresses CRX vs. GRX for bearer traffic

Data speeds GPRS (2,5G)


First generation of mobile packet data on GSM. Speed on average 32KB/s

EDGE (2,75G)
Overlay technology on existing GPRS network offering more efficiency in transmission coding. Result: 3x faster as GPRS, same coverage area. GPRS is not offered by all GSM operators

UMTS (3G)
New network roll-out based on W-CDMA technology. Speed has been increased to max. 384 KB/s downlink and 64 KB/s downlink.

HSDPA (3,5G)
Overlay technology on existing UMTS network. Downlink Standard Roaming Workshop Macau - 20 March 2007 3.6 MB/s, speed is currently 1.8 MB/s or Inter uplink 384 KB/s.
