WHAT IS DRUGS
A drug is a substance which may have medicinal, intoxicating, performance enhancing or other effects when taken or put into a human body or the body of another animal and is not considered a food or exclusively a food.

How are drugs classified?

Drugs are commonly classified according to their legal status or their effects on the central nervous system.

Legal and illegal drugs Illegal drugs

Laws and regulations control the availability, quality and price of the "legal" drugs. For example, tobacco may not be sold to persons under the age of 18.

Because they are illegal, there are no price or quality controls on the illicit drugs such as heroin and ecstasy. This means that a user can never be sure that the drug they are taking is in fact what they think it is. The user also cannot be sure of a drug's strength or purity. Various batches of an illegally manufactured drug may have different mixtures of the drug and additives such as poisons, caffeine or even talcum powder.

EFFECTS OF DRUGS ON AN INDIVIDUAL

Physical effects Short and slow breathing rate. Decrease in heartbeat. Would shiver and have low metabolism rate. Reddish eyes. Reduction in weight. Mental Effect Experience a sense of unreal and as if they are not grounded in the real world. This imaginary effects will disappear and this causes them to take drugs continuously. Different drugs will bring different effects to the individual which will be shown in the next slide

EFFECT OF DRUGS ON FAMILY

Children The effects of drug abuse on children, particularly when a parent is the addict, include painful feelings of responsibility, assuming the role of the missing parent (who is now the child figure), belief that their childhood experiences have been taken and the abandonment of faith in a strong parental figure. Parents For parents who discover their child's drug abuse, the immediate effects include overwhelming feelings of anger because the child placed himself in a dangerous situation and guilt from thinking they should have known or could have stopped the addiction. Spouses or Partners Significant others tend to feel responsible for a partner's addiction, the pain the partner is suppressing with drugs. This leaves them with a sense of obligation to support their partner by covering for them, lying, enabling and altering work schedules to deal with the drug abuser.

AS AN INDIVIDUAL
Be aware of the effects of drugs and HIV. By doing so you understand the harm of drugs towards them. Stay away from drugs by mixing with the right group of friends. Never ever try drugs for one will lose their judgment once trying and chances of transmitting HIV is high.

AS A FAMILY
Always check upon their kids Have a attitude of care towards every family members. If one discovered that one of their family member is involved in drug abuse, do not keep it to yourself, instead seek help

AS THE SOCIETY
Set up a community drug rehabilitation center. Have patrols around the neighborhood to check for drug addicts around the community. Set up a campaign to increase awareness on drugs and HIV in the community. Assist family with drug abuse issue

AS THE GOVERNMENT
Enforement of our law should be strenghten further in order to curb these drug abusers and dealers. Reduce the permit of entertainment licenses (Nightclub, Cyber cafes and Massage parlour) for these activities are prone to drug dealing. Increase the awareness of drug abuse and HIV toward the public, through education and campaigns. Free health screening for people who think they are infected with HIV.

AS THE POLICE
Increase in the surveillance at the borders between countries. This is to prevent drug trafficking into our country. Check on the community and increase patrol around the neighbourhood to ensure safety of the society from drug abusers. Increase in raids on entertainment outlets for these area are prone to drug dealing.

Drug abuse have cause many problems toward an individual, families, societies and countries. If this issue is not resolved, it will cause tremendous harm and destruction which would lead to the fall of mankind. Therefore, everybody and every part of the society must take drastic action to curb drug abuse in order to maintain order and stability for our generation to come.
