Deven Gandhi has been employed for 4 years in the accounts department of a large automobiles service station in mumbai. The service station is the beggest one in mumbai and is a listed company in mumbai stock exchange, employing over 650 employees. The accounts department consists of 22 employees mostly commerce graduates with professional qualifications like CA, ICWA, ICSI, CFA to their credit. Since the service station is the authorized dealer for most car manufacturers in India, it has to serve the need of large customers in and around mumbai.

To

improve operational efficiency the account section has been fully computerized and an assessment centre has been organized to develop the skills of the workers. The manager has been asked by the management to conduct a random sampling of the quantity and quality of the employee output after the computerisation programme is over. In the assessment centre ratings it was found that deven gandhi was of introvert nature. He could not mix up with people easily.

The

raters suggested that intially mr. gandhi should be given task with people of his comfort zone and then slowly step by step he should be exposed with other groups of the organization also.
