INDIA Market Analysis of Photovoltaic and related goods

Import and Export Trends, Government Policies & Unearthing of its potential

Project Proposal
Ashish Muley Roll No. 07, PGDMM 12-13

INDIA , right from the invention of PV Technology, has been a active participant in all three Markets of PV and related goods. India is in the sunny regions of the world with most parts of the country receiving 47 kwh (kilowatthour) of solar radiation per square meter per day, 250300 sunny days in a year. Inspite this fact, Indias total Installed PV capacity including the recently commissioned 25 MW capacity canal based solar power plant, Gujarat stands at mere 182 MW compared to the global PV installation capacity of 31000 MW out of which Germanys share is highest at 9800 MW. Still, The journey of increase in cumulative installation capacity from 31 MW in 2006 to six times installation capacity in 2012 (182 MW) is interesting and worth analyzing.

The objective of this project is to study the trends in Import Export during the period of 2004 2012 , various Government Policies and the performance of various companies which harnessed the potential of this PV Market and help total PV Installation Capacity in India to increase from 31 MW in 2006 to 182 MW in 2012. We shall fulfill this objective by studying the following value chain of the Indian Photovoltaic Market.

As INDIA targets 20000 MW of total PV Installation capacity by 2022, it will require an active involvement of business and financial institutions backed by adequate support and an enabling policies and environment from the Government of India.

The analysis carried out in this project study shall enable us to look how INDIA is poised to become leader among the worlds top PV energy producing countries.
The detailed study shall provide clear picture of the roadmap towards achieving the target mentioned above.

Access to majority of the data has been made through what is available in the market via Internet, various publications of government and figures put up by the companies in their annual report. Though I shall get into the minute details while quoting facts and figures in the project, it is admitted that integration of the data across various fields and companies shall be difficult and shall involve certain assumptions which shall be declared in the project report. The time period of analysis considered for the project study is 2004 2012. Any major happenings in the PV market of India or the world have not been considered in this study.
