Introduction
Active Matrix OLED (AMOLED) is a new display technology that is rapidly becoming viable for many applications. It is one of the type of OLED.

Components
Substrate Anode Organic layers Conductive layer Emissive layer Cathode

Principle
Electrophosphorescene
When electrical current is applied, a bright light is emitted. This process is called electrophosphorescence.

Working of AMOLED

Active Matrix Addressing

Internal circuitry of every pixel

Varieties of AMOLED
SUPER AMOLED
integrated digitizer reflects 5 times less sunlight compared to the first generation AMOLED Pentile Matrix Family

SUPER AMOLED PLUS

traditional RGB (3 subpixels) Brighter More energy efficient than Super AMOLED displays

HD SUPER AMOLED
HD-resolution (>1280720) Can be implemented both by Pentile Matrix Family (Galaxy Nexus Galaxy S III) or Traditional RGB (Galaxy Note II).

Applications
Application is in Displays

Advantages
High Contrast Ratio Wide Temperature Operation Fast Response Wide Viewing Angle Peak Brightness Low Power Consumption Very Slim design

Disadvantages
Current costs Lifespan Color balance issues Water damage Power consumption UV sensitivity

Conclusion
AMOLED is now a emerging technology and is applied in many smartphones these days. Flexibility and thinness will enable many applications OLED will soon replace current LED and LCD technologies
