Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) came into existence on 1st October 1964. The Company was formed by the merger of Hindustan Aircraft Limited with Aeronautics India Limited and Aircraft Manufacturing Depot, Kanpur. Late Seth Walchand Hirachand, set up Hindustan Aircraft Limited at Bangalore in association with the erstwhile princely State of Mysore in December 1940. HAL was conferred NAVRATNA status by the Government of India on 22nd June 2007.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is the largest PSU under

the Department of Defense Production and is a Navaratana Company. HAL is one of the largest aerospace companies in Asia with its annual turnover to be running above US$ 2 billion.

It has several facilities throughout India including Nasik, Korwa, Kanpur, Koraput, Lucknow, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

License Production:
- Commercial arrangement between a licensor and licensee, which enables the licensee to manufacture, in whole or in part, an item of licensor equipment. - A licensed production arrangement is accomplished under the provisions of a manufacturing license agreement as per the International Regulation.

Indigenization Production: -Indigenization is the process of converting imported items to indigenous items through indigenous resources.

Indigenous Products:
Hawk (AJT) - The Hawk is a tandem-seat Aircraft for ground attack, flying training and weapon training.

Dhruv (ALH) - The ALH is a multi-role, multi-mission helicopter designed to meet the requirement of both military and civil operators.

Chetak & Cheetah - It is a multipurpose helicopter for Civil and Military applications both for Domestic and International customers.

Lancer - The Lancer Helicopter is a light attack helicopter .

Light Combat Aircraft (LCA-Tejas) - Tejas is a single engined, light weight, highly agile, multi-role supersonic fighter.

Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT) - This aircraft is used for training of pilots.

Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) - Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) is produced to meet requirement of a dedicated light helicopter for combat operations.
