WHAT IS A CRIME?
An act or omission punishable or in violation of a criminal law of a state. Nullum crimen, nulla poena sine lege Crime is a growing international problem.

HOW THE STATE DEALS WITH CRIME?


The State provides a system which has the responsibilities of apprehending, prosecuting, trying and punishing law-breakers.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM


Criminal justice system refers to the system used by the government to maintain social control, enforce laws, prosecute offenses, and administer justice, sentencing and rehabilitation of offenders.

LAW ENFORCEMENT
The law enforcement serves as the front line of the encounter with the criminals or those who threaten the social order and public safety.

LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES (LEA)


Law enforcement agencies are organizations and offices of the government that enforces the laws or assist the enforcement of the laws as mandated by the law creating them. Law enforcement agencies have some restrictions in the applications of their power based on the authority given to them by law creating them. Law enforcement agencies adhere to hierarchical structure. This is a copycat of the military context of chain of command.

MAJOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES

PHILIPPINE NATIONAL POLICE

Enforce all laws and ordinances relative to the protection of lives and properties. Maintain peace and order and take all necessary steps to ensure public safety.

NATIONAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION


Undertake investigations of crimes and other offenses against the laws of the Philippines, upon its own initiative and as public interest may require. Render assistance, whenever properly requested in the investigation or detection of crimes and other offenses.

PHILIPPINE DRUG ENFORCEMENT AGENCY


Implement or cause the efficient and effective implementation of national drug control strategy formulate by the Board thereby carrying out a national anti-drug campaign program which shall include drug law enforcement and a control and prevention campaign with the assistance of concerned government agencies.

BUREAU OF IMMIGRATION AND DEPORTATION

It serves as the countrys gateway to the international community as well as the buffer point in controlling the entry of unscrupulous aliens in the country.

BUREAU OF CUSTOMS
Inspect, search and examine vessels or aircrafts and any trunk, package, box, or envelope on board. Detain and search all persons coming to the Philippines from foreign countries.

THE COMMUNITY
The burden and concept of law enforcement is not limited to the five major law enforcement agencies of the government. They also rest on a handful of vigilant civilian volunteers patrolling the barangay they serve.

The ability of our law enforcers to prevent and solve crimes depends heavily on the support and the willingness of the community to report presence of bad elements in the locality and commission of crimes.
