In this presentation I am going to show how you share contents Of a USB mass storage device such as Memory stick

amongst The users behind Thomson Modem. This home networking application is possible only for those Thomson Modems which have Master USB Port and Contentsharing Feature implemented into them. For example TG782, TG782T, TG787, TG797n are the examples Of Thomson Modems which have this feature. If you are lucky to Have such a modem do use this feature. See How it works!

Enter telnet session of the modem by entering 'telnet 192.168.1.254' command In DOS window

Enter user name 'Administrator', Hit Enter key, Hit Enter key again when you are Prompted for password. Password is blank for generic Thomson Modems. If these values are different find their values from your ISP who supplied you The Modem

The very first step as usual is to set SESSIONTIMEOUT value to zero so CLI Session never times out. When you are new and learning to use CLI, it is very Likely that you are thinking and CLI will timeout due to inaction for 2 minutes.

Enter 'menu' command to enter menu mode of CLI. I always like to use CLI in menu mode. It is easy to use CLI this way. By default Cursor is highlighting [contentsharing] command group. Just hit Enter key. See next slide for the response

Move the highlighting cursor from two dots onto [cifs] with right arrow key See response on next slide

Once cursor is over [cifs] hit Enter key. See next slide for the response

Move the highlighting cursor from two dots over 'config' with down arrow. See next slide for response

When cursor is over 'config' hit Enter key. See next slide for response

At the moment state is disabled by default. Hit Enter key then with down arrow Repetition you are going to select option 'enabled' for state. Hit Enter key. Press Down arrow, cursor highlights workgroup. Hit Enter. Enter string'mygroup' Then hit Enter, Press down arrow, cursor is over name. Hit Enter key. Then Enter The string 'myname' Hit Enter key. Hit TAB key. Cursor over <OK> then Hit Enter Key. All this is shown in next slide

Hit Enter Key when cursor over <OK> to apply changes. See Next slide

Hit Enter key to go one level up. See Next slide

Hit Enter key to go one level up See Next slide

Hit TAB Key . Cursor would be over <OK>. Hit TAB key again. This time Cursor would be over <Cancel> then Hit Enter Key. See next slide

Now you are back to normal mode. It is not a menu mode. Enter 'saveall' command first then finally enter exit command to quit CLI session See Next slide

So basically all you have done is you have executed single command which is :contentsharing cifs config state=enabled workgroup=mygroup name=myname When you become expert in CLI you can do this quickly by entering above command. But in the beginning I would recommend you to use menu mode until you get Familiar with CLI. At any moment you can always quit any stage by pressing CTRL + g if you do not know the correct answer for any parameter setting.

The content sharing configuration is over. All you have to do is Insert a Memory stick in one of the USB Master port Of the Modem. Then Enter your Windows Explorer and Enter \\192.168.1.253\ in the aadress field and Hit Enter key As show in the Next slide

Initially address field show my Computer Enter \\192.168.1.253 in Address field of Explorer and Hit Enter Key

You see little icon of computer followed by \\192.168.1.253 and Disk_a1 in content are Double click on Disk_a1. See response on Next slide. You should see contents of Memory stick

That completes the exercise of content sharing. All the users on Ethernet LAN As well as Wireless LAN should be able to share this contents. Read them, Modify them. Print them. In a separate Presentation on Printer sharing I will show you how you can Share Printer amongst the users. Well Printer sharing is possible. But it is bit slow. Since Modem has to do Other important and its main job of giving you broadband network connection. Printer and content sharing is its secondary job as enhancement to promote Home Networking. And you do not print tons of paper like an Office environment Any way. Good Luck and Enjoy your Content Sharing! Cheers Point & Click
