At the age of 13 as a young boy when he himself endured that hardship of using Ox driven bucket and lift method for drawing water from well for irrigation, he dreamt of developing a device that would alleviate the sufferings endured by the farmers. This dream became his ambition, his passion.

FOUNDERS
Late. Sri. K.K. Veluchamy was born in an agricultural family at Kottur Devinaickanpatti, a remote village in Vedasandur, Dindugul district. Even as early as 13 years, he dreamt of finding a better way to bring water to the fields, than having farmers depend on hard manual and animal labour. His dream led him to pursue engineering and he was awarded a gold medal for academic brilliance in Electrical Engineering. It was here that he delved into the finer aspects of design and manufacture of submersible motors. The year was 1972. In 1981, he realized that dream and founded Deccan Industries, an exclusive production line for submersible pumps along with his cousin Mr. P. Arumugam and his friend Mr. M.S. Sundaram. To Sri. K.K. Veluchamy, it was not about merely designing better pumps. It was about making a difference. This led him to obtain the countrys first ISI certification by Bureau of Indian Standards for submersible pumps. Since then, he had been actively engaging himself in developing different pump variants that conform to ISI standards. More recognitions followed and in 1989, he received the Udyog Patra Award for outstanding contributions to Indian agriculture for manufacturing high quality agriculture pumpsets. He is also the recipient of Lok Sabhas Speaker Award, Union Labour Ministers Award, Union Rural Development Ministers Award among others for his contributions to pump manufacture and labour welfare. The long years he spent in the agriculture belts of India helped him bring a unique understanding to farmers requirements. He ensured that his company maintained an active network with farmers from all over the country and ensured that products from Deccan were backed by an efficient yet low cost service network. There have been many times when service support has been offered free to farmers. He has inculcated in the company, a deep passion and commitment towards social responsibility. Today, the Deccan Group has grown to encompass many entities, from a dedicated research institute to education institutions. The Darbari Elders Home is also part of the group and reflects its care for the larger community. His values form the edifice of Deccan Group of Companies today.

MANAGEMENT
Many minds have worked alongside the founder to create that solid foundation on which the Deccan Group of Industries exists. They bring with them diverse skill sets that have helped us grow, sustain that growth and constantly reinvent ourselves to meet growing market needs. Mr. P. Arumugam is a graduate of Mathematics who turned his attention to the soil, than to numbers. He is a fellow founder of Deccan Group and is the key driving force behind our operations strategy. He also heads the Finance, Purchase, Production Planning and Development divisions and is involved in devising the roadmap for Deccan. His management skills have helped us build a core team that works to deliver his strategic plans. He is committed to ensuring that the group sustains its benchmarks of quality. Mr. K.V. Karthik following an engineering degree from MIT (Pune) pursued higher learning at Sheffield University, (U.K). Here, he was able to hone his engineering skills and also developed an understanding of rapidly evolving technologies from around the world. He then joined his father and uncle and has since been working at all levels of the group. Mr.K.V.Karthik spearheads research initiatives and has been responsible for several product improvisations. He works in close coordination with the research team in areas of new product developments. His global exposure has helped him gain several insights into global marketing strategies. He currently heads the sales and marketing and research divisions at the group. His enthusiasm and high energy levels are a constant source of inspiration for team Deccan. The core management team is ably supported by a group of professionals, each responsible for a particular area of operation. Along with an able team, we work to constantly elevate our standards in pump and allied light engineering manufacture.

The registered office and manufacturing unit of DECCAN INDUSTRIES is situated in the same premises on the national highway, Sathy Road just about 4kms away from the city center and bus station. Incidentally Coimbatore is called the pump city of Asia and is well connected with air, rail and road and has a pleasant climate with temperatures ranging between 180 and 380c throughout the year.

DECCAN INDUSTRIES was started in the year 1981 with the first exclusive production line for submersible pumpsets in the country. Then food sufficiency was the major focus of the Indian government. Food Sufficiency through Green Revolution was made possible because of the installation of large quantity of pumpsets , especially the borewell submersible pumpsets. Now the group has four manufacturing units and 1 technology centre with 140 thousand square feet of built up area and 220 thousand square feet of open space. The company is owned by the founders family with family members actively taking part in the management. With an annual production of 50 thousand units, Deccan is one of Indias leading pump manufacturers. Borewell submersible pumps, Openwell submersible pumps, Jet pumps and Centrifugal pumps are the major product groups. Deccan innovative pumps have been widely recognized in the market and the company is the largest producer of vertical openwell pumps in the country. Our testing facility is the countrys largest and all our products are routed through exhaustive testing processes before they reach the market. We are the prestigious holders of the most models with BIS markings in the country. We are also the first in India to obtain IS 14220 certification mark assigned for open well submersible pumps and first in South India to win IS 8034 for Borewell Submersible Pumps.

INFRASTRUCTURE
The company has four manufacturing units with a total built up area of about 80000 sq. ft mostly roofed by concrete and another 120000 sq. ft is used for stocking. Apart from this a land measuring about 2.5 hectares is available in the vicinity of the company for future expansion and diversification. The largest testing facility for submersible pumpsets in the country has been commissioned in one of the units. Modern methods are used for stocking and handling and even the raw materials stored in the stock yard are through pallets. This has helped the Industry to have an elegant look apart from making the handling easy. Environmental consideration has been taken care by constructing a huge sump for rain water harvesting, the first of its kind in India. Trees are planted in the factory to have an echo friendly atmosphere. of spares are the main criterion in the shop floor. Jigs and fixtures are freely used to keep the standards and productivity. Utmost care is taken in the planning stage itself to keep the rejection at the lowest level and also to get the job done in minimum time with less effort. Computers are installed at every stage to monitor the processes. Generators of adequate capacity are installed for uninterrupted power supply. Instruments of high accuracy are used along with standard gauges for inspection. Efficient engineers are provided at each level to monitor and contribute for continual improvement.

FINAL PRODUCT TESTING

All the products manufactured are subject to full hydraulic test. Pumpsets are installed in test benches and are tested for head, discharge and current drawn. Full test as per Bureau of Indian standards (BIS) recommendations are carried out on one in every ten pieces. Testing benches more than the required are installed for taking care of each and every pumpset for its performance and longevity. Since ample hydraulic test is conducted chances of a defective product reaching the end user is minimized to zero level.

INCOMING AND INPROCESS INSPECTION

All materials or parts relevant to the manufacturing are inspected at incoming area before they enters in store or ware house. Dedicated personnel at the incoming area verify the correctness of the material with the quantity in the purchase order. After this preliminary verification the material / parts will be checked as per relevant applicable documentation (visual, mechanical or other checks) the results of the verification / check will be recorded in the incoming inspection report. If the material/parts are below the required standards the materials / parts are rejected and intimated to the vendor and a standard sent seeking explanation. In certain instances the vendors are instructed to supply materials with test certificates for mechanical characteristics. During the machining process all materials / parts are subject to inspection. Components are accurately inspected for hole diameters, whole diameters, height etc. Dedicated personnel conduct random checks while the labours are motivated to check all the pieces. Non conforming components / pieces are segregated in separate area for either re work or scrapped.

VENDOR MANAGEMENT
The company purchases most of its raw materials from reputed vendors. During vendor evaluation process, their quality management system is thoroughly studied and preference given to the one with ISO certification. At DECCAN, Vendors are considered as partners in development. Quality with delivery schedule is the major criteria in which vendors are rated.

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS
An appreciated motivational system for employees is followed where remuneration is directly linked with productivity. Incentives are awarded for producing with nil or few rejections. This way of remuneration and incentive is highly motivational and has been adopted by many other industries. Internal and external training programs on productivity, inspection, quality management systems, and house keeping are conducted regularly. Employees are covered by group insurance schemes for accidental coverage; in some instances med claim facility is also provided. The top management interacts with the employees regularly and grievance of any sort is solved immediately. Since the inception of these welfare measures ten years ago there has been zero instance of labour unrest.

PLANT AND MACHINERY

The company is installed with all modern and precise machineries required to manufacture the pumps in high caliber. Most of the works are done in the factory itself by using CNC machines for accuracies up to one micron. Special purpose machines are used to do jobs of intricate nature. Deccan has established a strong Research and Development arm at Info Institute of Engineering , that steers engineering students towards high performing roles in new product development. The institute functions as an in-house arm and technical centre for Deccan group of companies and has helped the group make giant strides in terms of innovation and improvisation. A dedicated team of qualified professionals and research analysts work to understand market dynamics and accordingly work on product enhancements. The centre employs engineers and research analysts with special focus on mechanical, electrical and material development. At Deccan, improvisation and innovation go hand in hand. While product improvisation is a constant process, innovations take place depending on market needs and demands. Our R & D efforts follow a system that begins on the field of operations. We then create a database of all the areas that can do with improvement. Our specially instituted R & D centre then uses relevant tools to address these factors. AFTER SALES SERVICE

DECCAN pumpsets are sold throughout India and abroad by its distributors and dealers. The branches owned by the company are used for stocking, imparting technical knowledge among users, dealers and fitters, providing service backups and passing the advice, suggestions and criticism from the end users to the concerned authorities for improvement and upgrading. The job of DECCAN does not end with the sales but also to see the customer getting the maximum benefit out of it. As indicated earlier intense customer care is taken in keeping the pumpset with minimum maintenance. Every effort is taken to off-set the delay in getting the ordered goods from source. It is the policy of DECCAN that customer should not suffer because of lack of spares. Apart from that the spares for pumpsets even for the models that are produced 15 years back are available at the factory. A fully functional service centre operates within the company with the facility to repair any pumpset within 24 hours. Branches, distributors and dealers are advised to have sufficient spares at their authorized service centers.

Kanapathy Charitable Trust Kanapathy Charitable Trust is our dedication to serve the immediate community. One of the recent initiatives of the trust is the Darbari Elders Home, a special care centre for senior citizens . The trust also supports a school, free medical care and a community hall at Kottur Devinaickanpatti in the memory of K.K.Veluchamy.

Dharbhari Charitable Trust Dharbhari Charitable Trust is the most recent addition to our group of entities. This as primarily started to make quality technical education affordable for rural engineering students and those aspiring to gain a practical, technical degree. Info Institute of Engineering has been established as part of this trust. More such technical institutes are in the making.

Ecofriendly An old Deccan Pump is not just worthless rubbish, it is still a valuable resource. Generally between 90 & 99% of our pumpset construction materials/parts are 100% recyclable, further endorsing our commitment to a smarter, safer planet. We continue to innovate and improvise our pumpsets to keep the pump LIFE CYCLE COST as low as possible.

Energy Efficient Pumps Approximately 20% of the worlds total power consumption is used for running of the pumps. As a result there is excellent potential for environmental improvement. All Deccan Pumpsets are designed highly energy efficient, saving upto 40% of energy compared to other pumpsets. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency has certified our pumps with the 5 star grade.

Organic Farming We believe that each one can contribute towards offsetting the carbon footprint and diminishing Global Warming through afforestation & sustainable agricultural practices. Towards this end, we have implemented Organic Farming across 120 acres of land at Vedasandur in South India that include coconut, mango, tamarind plantations, etc.,
