Experience
Xinfu.com, FREELANCE CONTENT WRITER, June 2012 to present.
Responsible for writing and researching CEO profiles for the upcoming website. Reading and sifting
through huge amounts of information is paramount to this position. I learned how to better research
and find the information I need, improved my skills as a writer and got faster at writing to tight
deadlines. In this job I write from three to four stories of at least 1,000 words every day.

Press Association, FREELANCE WRITER, January 2012 to July 2012.
In eight hour shifts I rewrote 20 stories of 200 words. Each story requires a different style and voice,
which taught me to be a flexible and quick writer.

BBC, FREELANCE TRANSLATOR, January 2012.
Translated audio for the programme Madness on Wheels: Rallying's Craziest Years from Portuguese
to English. This was a test for my language skills and I learnt to use the right expressions and words
when transferring them from one language to the other.

The Independent, BLOGGER, June 2011 to present.
This job encompasses seeking stories that the Indys web audience might find interesting and putting
my own spin and opinions into them. With hard work and persistence, I landed an interview with
celebrity actor Tom Felton and a Brazilian government official. My work can be seen in the following

The Independent, WORK EXPERIENCE, June 2011.
Worked closely with reporters for three weeks, called PR agencies to hunt down information, wrote
synopsis of books and films. Persistently pitched stories to editors until one of them was picked up by
the blogs editor who kept taking my content after I had left.

Forge Press, DEPUTY EDITOR, May 2011 to May 2012.
Voted to the position by the rest of the student newspapers editorial team, I acted as Second-
in-Command of the newspaper and helped the editor bring fortnightly issues together by subbing
and editing stories. Was part of the team that won the Best Student Media Award at the 2012 NUS
Awards.

New Start Magazine, WORK PLACEMENT, March 2011
New Start recently transitioned from hardcopy to online format, a very useful situation to be around
in the world of new media. I also interviewed the leader of Manchesters BME Network and wrote a
feature that can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/7j9zryv

Forge Press, NEWS EDITOR, May 2010 to September 2011.
Reported local and university news and gathered material for a fortnightly newspaper by coordinating
a team of 50 writers. I was under constant pressure to meet deadlines. Gained experience in copy
editing and subbing and learnt how to use Adobe InDesign.

Education
BA, Journalism Studies at the University of Sheffield, 2009 - 2012 (2.1 recommended)
This course has taught me invaluable lessons in journalism. In addition to the technical knowledge I
have gained in InDesign, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro and Burli, I have learned how to report stories.

International Baccalaureate (IB) at the British School of Rio de Janeiro, 2007 -2008
Living and studying in Rio de Janeiro taught me a perspective not many other places can teach; the
social backdrop of Brazil has incredible history, and there is much to report about it that the rest of
the world doesnt know.
