During that afternoon, fun activities were held in the school gym as part of the celebration. These photos represent this years homecoming.

Warwick band gets bigger as it heads into final weeks of competition

When the Warwick Marching Band took the field in Cavalcade competition at Conrad Weiser High School, they had a slightly bigger look. This past Saturday they were sporting new feathers in their caps much larger feathers at that. Early last week, boxes of new plumes were delivered, and these new 14-inchers dwarf the old eight-inch ones. The black and gold plumes are worn by most of the marching instrumentalists on the field to add height and drama to their uniforms. It certainly impacts our visual of the show. They add finesse and they make our group look bigger overall, giving us a more dramatic look, said Warwick Marching Band Director Matt Wolfe. So far this season, Warwick Marching Band is undefeated in the American division of the Cavalcade of Bands Competition. And, theyve scored higher than many larger bands. Wolfe is very pleased with the students overall performances and progress and looks forward to the next few weeks in competition. With only three shows left in this Cavalcade season, including championships, he says Warwick is not letting anything to chance. The plumes are one additional visual tool, but other dramatic changes will be made to their successful show, JOY, to make the band even more competitive as the competition gets tougher at the end. Well be adding a new final ending and will perform it in our next-to-last competition show. The students can definitely play this show by now; were just working on consistency from an individual level. Well just make some visual improvements and change it up at the end to give it our best shot.

Warwick presents forum on hot topics in education

Warwick School District invites and encourages all parents of school-age students, and all members of the public, to attend a free public education forum on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Warwick Middle School Auditorium. This forum will be an extension of the regularly scheduled Warwick School Board Committee of the Whole meeting normally held in the district office board room the first Tuesday of each month. The district is hosting this first in a series of forums to highlight district successes, discuss current legislative issues that could impact education, and share the potential financial implications as they relate to the Warwick School District and our school community. Learn more about how you can help advocate to make a difference in public education. Warwick School District has a lot for which to be proud, most importantly our educational program and the resulting student achievement. Discussion topics will include the many ways our community and schools are working together (a new alumni association and an alternative funding program). Information about legislation, vouchers and Act 1 will also be available.

Aluminum can recycle day this Friday

This Friday, Oct. 28, is the second aluminum can recycling day of the 2011-12 school year. Students are reminded to bring in their smashed, clean aluminum cans on the fourth Friday of each month to be placed in their schools recycling toter. Warwick School District began recycling aluminum cans in March of last school year. Its a great way to help the environment, and a district volunteer will gather the cans from the toters and cash them in to benefit Warwick schools. All district school buildings now have outdoor recycling trash toters (bins) available to receive your aluminum cans. For those of you interested in helping your school recycle aluminum, please empty the cans completely, rinse, and flatten the cans from top to bottom (a smashed can will have the top of the can directly on top of the bottom). With a recycling rate of 57.4 percent, aluminum cans are the most recycled of all beverage containers. Aluminum cans are infinitely recyclable and can be recycled into new cans and put back on store shelves in as few as 60 days. And can recycling benefits the environment in ways that extend beyond just minimizing landfill waste. For example, producing a can with recycled content requires 95 percent less energy than making that same can out of raw material. This in turn conserves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and saves money. Remember, the fourth Friday of each month is Aluminum Can Recycling Day. Help your school and community be more green while making some green for your school!

All Pro Dads coming to WMS for breakfast

Warwick Middle School will launch a new before-school program this Friday at 7 a.m. All Pro Dads will be held four times throughout the school year in the schools cafeteria. The session will feature a breakfast and informational talk on strengthening the fatherhood/motherhood relationship with their children. This program is similar to those held monthly at several Warwick elementary schools. The Pro Dads program was launched in 1997 with the help of Tony Dungy, former head coach of the Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts. It is an innovative program structured around a football theme, which has more than 50 NFL players, coaches and alumni supporters. Pro Dads currently has over 1,200 chapters in 48 states and in eight countries, with more than 40,000 fathers and their kids gathering on a regular basis to discuss topics like peer pressure, goal setting, and caring for the less fortunate. Warwick Middle School Principal Michael Smith will lead the schools program and will be the featured guest speaker for this first gathering. Smith will speak about Being Humble. Contact the Warwick Middle School (6263701) if you have any questions, or wish to register.
