Total physical response approach:

Engaging a child completely is essential part of

teaching. This method utilizes techniques which are designed to elicit a physical rather than a verbal response from the student, for example students can be made to do the actions involved while explaining the concept of verbs. The students should be encouraged to acquire the target language and enhance their comprehension of the language before production. Games like dumb charades and whats the good word can be used to help students get a better understanding of the nuances of the target language.

Content centered learning approach: Repetition is the most time tested method of
acquiring new knowledge. Teaching all subjects in the target language help children acquire it faster. This method also helps expand the childrens vocabulary faster and encourages a faster and more accurate learning of the target language. Academic subjects like mathematics science and social studies should be taught in English to help the child acquire specific knowledge in each area of study.

Lexical Approach: Reading books in the target language or watching short movies and
cartoons in English can help a child understand how the language is actually spoken in real time. Words and word combinations and their usage in the everyday speech can be taught. The lexical method, concentrates on teaching words which are related and common expressions like idioms from everyday speech. It also lays emphasis on the improving the reading and listening comprehension skills of learners. Children can watch short clips of movies and made to pick out the words and their usage in it. A short questionnaire on the clip content can also be prepared by the teacher to gauge the level of comprehension of individual students.

Communicative approach: Teaching English as a language for daily use rather than an
academic subject helps students grasp the target language better and faster. In this approach students should be allowed to articulate their thoughts and communicate with the teacher and with each other in the target language. The usage of other languages should be discouraged but not forbidden. Native language usage may be allowed only to enhance comprehension and not for communication. Grammar, lexicon and vocabulary can all be learnt simultaneously by the students rather than treating each as a different subject. Tests and assignments can be used as tools to determine the individual students awareness of different aspects of and the language as a whole.

Art and Musical approach: Using songs rhymes and poems is the standard method for
introducing new vocabulary and learning for very young learners. Combining it with pictorial depiction of described events and new words helps students identify and retain words better. The same approach can be utilized for older children to learn a new language. This approach also helps the child get a better grasp of phonics. This approach combines all the above mentioned approaches and adds an element of fun through the incorporation of music and rhythm.
