Solar
project
hits a
snag
By ROBERT LINNEHAN
The Moorestown Sun
Last weeks town council
meeting sounded strangely
like a funeral service. The be-
reaved? The townships once-
promising solar system plan.
A township representative
presented a 15-minute plan to
fill in council members on the
state of solar panel systems in
New Jersey.
The township has been con-
sidering the construction of a
solar system at the same loca-
tion as the sewer treatment
plant along Pine and Lenola
Road, which runs along the
Rancocas Creek.
Russ Trice, the Moorestown
Township engineer, explained
that a recent bill passed by the
Legislature designed to in-
crease the value of solar re-
newable energy certificates
certificates representing one
mega-watt-hour of electricity
generated from a solar energy
installation will not go into
effect until 2014.
The legislation that was
passed would alter the amount
of solar energy that electrical
energy suppliers have to pur-
Program offers student support
By ROBERT LINNEHAN
The Moorestown Sun
For a group of students at the
Upper Elementary School, just
one lunch a week can be a good
opportunity to discuss their situ-
ations at home and share feelings
with peers in a similar household
situation.
Arline Conigliaro, a counselor
at UES, has formed a successful
support group of soon-to-be sixth
graders who have siblings with
special needs. The group was
formed after Conigliaro said sev-
eral parents contacted her when
the students were in fifth grade,
asking the counselor if anything
could be done for the students.
For young students who live at
home with siblings who have spe-
cial needs, Conigliaro said that it
can seem like their parents spend
much more time with their sib-
lings. It can be tough sometimes,
she said.
Sometimes, they just need
someone to talk too and share ex-
periences with.
It seems as though the dis-
abled child, due to a special need,
has a lot more attention given to
them in the family setting,
Conigliaro said. The siblings of
the special needs children can use
the special acknowledgement and
attention; theyre just as impor-
tant. The child in need is the one
who will get the most attention.
Parents can really be torn, so we
try to help.
The group consists of eight stu-
dents who will be moving into the
sixth grade for the next school
year, Conigliaro said. Two of the
students don't have siblings that
have special needs, but are more
involved in the group as sup-
port members.
Susan Ambrose, whose son An-
thony is a special needs child,
said her older son Craig has
learned to share his experiences
with the group and has grown as
a person through his participa-
tion.

chase each year. Right now, Trice
said that the value of an SREC is
below $100, a significant drop
from 5 to 10 years ago when the
SREC market was at its highest.
However, because of a boom in
the production of solar farms and
solar energy systems, the market
has become flooded with SRECs
and driven down the price, Trice
said.
Not only are the SREC prices
down considerably, but the loca-
tion that the township was plan-
ning to build on is rife with prob-
lems. The site is along a flood-
plain and in the midst of a wet-
lands area, so the township would
have to get special permits from
the Department of Environmen-
tal Protection to build the solar
farm in that area, Trice said.
The price for these permits
would cost the township about
$90,000, Trice said.
Also, to break even on the proj-
ect, the township would have to
sell its SRECs at a minimum of
$200, Trice said, well above the av-
erage SRECs are going for right
now.
My advice is to wait and see
what happens with the SREC
market, Trice said.
The price may go up for the
SRECs if the bill goes into effect
in 2014, but theres no stopping de-
velopers from building more
solar farms and flooding the mar-
ket with solar energy credits
again, Trice said.
Greg Newcomer, a resident
who has long supported building
a solar system in Moorestown,
was dismayed to hear that the
township was not considering
building a system at this time.
Is solar dead in the township?
Is this what Im hearing? New-
comer asked the council member.
Deputy Mayor Greg Gallo said
that the idea wasnt officially
dead, but at the moment it doesnt
appear to be cost-feasible for
Moorestown.
Newcomer said a system could
work on the roof of the rec build-
ing, a suggestion hes made sever-
al times to the township council
members.
Please look at the rec building
for a system on the roof. It could
dovetail with the work possibly
going into the building, New-
comer said.
In other township news:
Mayor John Button said the
township should have more infor-
mation about the possible sale of
liquor licenses at the next meet-
ing, which is scheduled for Tues-
day, July 9, at 7:30 p.m.
Pennsylvania Real Estate In-
vestment Trust was going to give
a presentation at last weeks
meeting, but had to pull out at the
last minute, Button said.
Despite an ongoing lawsuit
from a nearby shopping center
which is suing for the right to
purchase one or several liquor li-
censes from PREIT Button said
that PREIT is moving forward
with its plan and more informa-
tion will soon be available.

A Moorestown man has been
indicted for creating a counterfeit
bank check in the amount of
$484,000 and presenting it to a title
insurance company as legitimate
while closing on a house in
Moorestown that he planned to
purchase, Burlington County
Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi
announced recently.
Brett A. Cooper, 35, was indict-
ed on one count of theft by decep-
tion (second degree), one count of
elements of computer theft (sec-
ond degree), two counts of for-
gery (third degree) and one count
of uttering a forged instrument
(third degree).
The investigation revealed
Cooper had come to an agreement
on a purchase price for a home in
Moorestown. At the closing, he
produced a check for $484,000, and
represented it to be from his
bank. The check was discovered
to be fraudulent when the title in-
surance company was notified by
its bank that Coopers account
contained insufficient funds to
cover the check.
The account on which the
counterfeit check was purported
to have been drawn upon con-
tained no money at the time the
check was presented.
The indictment was returned
June 21.
An arraignment will be sched-
uled soon in Superior Court.
Detectives from the
Moorestown Township Police De-
partment and the Burlington
County Prosecutors Office Fi-
nancial Crimes Unit conducted
the investigation.
Anyone who has information
concerning the defendant that
may be helpful to law enforce-
ment should call the prosecutors
office at (609) 265-5035 and ask to
speak to a detective in the Finan-
cial Crimes Unit.

A nonprofit corporation has
been formed to concentrate on
providing resources and assis-
tance to needy youth in
Moorestown.
Known as MooreKids, it was
founded by four Moorestown resi-

to assist the significant number of
children in the community who
struggle to meet daily needs.
MooreKids mission is to make
everyday necessities, educational
activities and enrichment oppor-
tunities accessible to
Moorestown's underserved youth.
MooreKids goal is to provide fi-
nancial assistance, assistance
with food and clothing, mentor-
ing opportunities and opportuni-
ties to participate in local recre-
ational activities and camps to
Moorestown children in financial
need.

will be providing scholarships for
children to attend the
Moorestown Township Summer
Parks Program. The costs associ-
ated with the camp are as follows:
A $15 donation will send a
child on a field trip through the
parks program.
A $30 donation will provide a
bag lunch and snack to a child for
three weeks.
A $60 donation will provide a
bag lunch and snack for a child
for six weeks.
A $125 donation will allow a
child to attend camp for the entire
program.
The group has been informally
soliciting donations for
Moorestowns youth during the
holidays, and decided to formally
organize and expand the effort to
include year-round activity.
MooreKids is a registered

in our opinion
F
rom all of us at Elauwit Media
to all of our loyal readers, we
wish you the happiest and
healthiest Fourth of July.
As rough as things are in our coun-
try our economy is still poor, unem-
ployment is extremely high and the
Phillies cant seem to win a baseball
game anymore things could be a lot
worse for us.
A quick glance at the world around
us reveals just how fortunate we are, as
Americans, to have the freedoms we
do. And lets face it, these freedoms we
often take for granted.
Imagine, for just a moment, what it
must be like to live in Syria.
Imagine what it must be like to live
in China, where we recently learned of
how real and barbaric the nations one-
child-only policy really is.
Imagine what it must be like to live
in Egypt, where theres still instability
and a lack of confidence in the nations
parliament.
We live in a nation where, despite
our differences, we manage to co-exist
peacefully for the most part.
We live in a nation where our Con-
gress and where the office of the presi-
dent have functioned and survived for
236 years.
We live in a nation where, for the
most part, were free to do as we please.
This simply isnt the case in many
corners of the world.
Today, we give thanks for the liber-
ties won for us hundreds of years ago.
We give thanks for the many women
and men who have made incredible
sacrifices to protect these freedoms in
battle in Afghanistan and Iraq and
countless other places in the Middle
East and abroad.
We remember their families who,
like they, have also made sacrifices by
saying goodbye so we can do things as
simple as having a barbecue sometime
today.
Finally, we give thanks for all that
America is and stands for. It may not
be perfect, but a quick glance of the
news shows: life could be much worse.
Happy Fourth of July
A quick look at world news a reminder of how fortunate we Americans are
Independence Day 2012
July 4, 2012 today we give thanks

Librarys movie program one
of towns best-kept secrets
One of the best-kept secrets in
Moorestown is the movie program spon-
sored by the Moorestown Friends of the Li-
brary and presented by Jack Favorite from
his own large collection. He presents a
movie at the library on the first Monday of
the month at 7:30 p.m.
The movie is preceded by a short lecture
by Favorite. He shares the stories and expe-
riences he has absorbed from his years of
studying and acting in the theater and his
acquaintance and knowledge of some of
the famous directors, photographers and
writers of the famed Hollywood picture
days.
He is able to embellish each movie with
a more intimate observation of its produc-
tion.
My husband and I enjoy his commen-
tary at least as much as the movie.
Currently, the movie program will be ex-
panded because of the commemoration of
the bicentennial of Charles Dickens
birth.
There were will be a showing of David
Copperfield, on July 9, a Tale of Two
Cities, on July 16, Great Expectations,
on July 23, Oliver Twist, on July 30 and a
timely holiday showing of A Christmas
Carol, on Dec. 10.
We owe a debt of gratitude to the
Friends of the Library for featuring such a
series. These movies would appeal to al-
most any age group and they are free.

Anthony's older brother Craig
is able to talk about any frustra-
tions he may have because his
younger brother is physically
challenged. Craig is always trying
to help his brother always looks
out for him and walks behind him
just in case he may lose his bal-
ance. That's the kind of kid Craig
is, Ambrose said. But this
group allows him to talk off the
cuff about things he has ques-
tions about. For example, maybe
Craig heard someone making fun
of Anthony and doesn't want to
talk to me about it because he
knows I'll be sad. Or, even some-
times the siblings might be em-
barrassed by their brother or sis-
ter's behavior in public places.
The program is invaluable for
families in their situation, Am-
brose said, because its reality
that the special needs child typi-
cally gets more attention. Its sim-
ply based on need, she said,
which is made clear to the sibling
without the special need, but its
still great to have a support
group.
Conigliaro said the group will
continue to meet next year and is
open to new members. For par-
ents with students in the fourth
or fifth grades in the school dis-
trict, she urged them to contact
their students guidance coun-
selor to see if a similar group
could be created.

Special to The Sun
The Upper Elementary School has a special support group of soon-

The Moorestown Basketball
Academy is designed for girls
ages 7 to 14 who are interested in
learning a full range of funda-
mentals and skill development.
Every camper will learn and
practice passing, ball handling,
shooting, rebounding, offensive
moves, defense, lay-ups, screens
and agility.
The academy is now accepting
registration for its summer clinic.
The camp will be held from
July 16 to July 19 from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m. each day. The cost for the
clinic is $200.
There will be a variety of
games and fun-filled activities
packed into every day.
Moorestown Basketball Acade-
my is run by experienced, posi-
tive and caring role models who
know the game of basketball and
how to teach it to all ability levels.
More importantly, we take
great pride in providing a lasting
experience for our campers.
Qualified and enthusiastic
coaches and MHS womens bas-
ketball players will assist the
MBA coaching staff. This allows
campers the opportunity to work
one on one with great role models
who have participated in the
game at the high school and colle-
giate level.
Camp director Chris Hill is the
girls head varsity basketball
coach at Moorestown High School
and has more than 20 years coach-
ing experience. She led the Lady
Quakers to the South Jersey state
finals in the 2010-11 season, which
is the furthest in MHS girls bas-
ketball history.
Hill takes an active involve-
ment in the instruction of the
campers and works with them
personally throughout the camp.
Keeping the campers involved
and having fun throughout each
day is our expectation. The camp
atmosphere is high energy and
exciting, as campers engage in
fun individual and team competi-
tions with an emphasis on the en-
joyment of the game. The camp is
structured for players of all levels
of ability looking to improve indi-
vidual and team skills.
