The Storm
1. Synopsis There is a son and his father, Bibi and Bobint. They are in the Friedheimers store when it appears that a hard rain will come up and decide to wait there until the rain is over. At the same time, Calixta, Bobints wife is at home and feel uneasy because it is going to rain and her son and husband are not home yet. She immediately takes the clothes which hanging in outside the house, when her ex-boyfriend, Alce passes. Because of the dark cloud, Alce asks to stay and wait until the rain is over to Calixta. When the rain pours, they are in a closed white room, monumental, its closed shutters, looked dim and mysterious. In front of Alce, Calixta crying out of fear for her son and husband who have not come home yet. Alce tries to cheer Calixta up with encircle his arm, then clasps her shoulders and look into her face. Alce feels the woman in front of him is arousing all the old-time infatuation and desire for her flesh. Alce asks Calixta about their passionate love memory in Assumption with a low voice. That circumstances support their to do the love affair. The rain is over and Calixta watch Alce ride away. Bibi and Bobint come home with their clothes full of mud. Calixta express her uneasiness to her son and husband about where they were during the rain, but she glad that they return home safely. In other place, Alce send love letter to his wife, asking about his wife and the baby. Alce implicitly says to his wife not to hurry back because their health is more important. He was willing to be separate a while longer. His wife feel happy to receive love letter from Alce. The rain passed and everyone continue their life as if nothing happened.

2. Elements 2.1 Characters and Characterization There are four main characters in this story; they are Calixta, Alcee, Bibinot and Bibi. Calixta is protagonist, it shows from the beginning until the end of the story that Calixta is the main character who being talked about in the story. Characterization of Calixta is flat. It shows from the beginning until the end of the story that she is a wife who can be easily carried out by the circumstances. Alcee is protagonist, it shows from the beginning until the end of the story that Alcee is the other main character who being talked about in the story. Characterization of Alcee is dynamic. It shows from the beginning of the story that Alcee is just want to wait until the rain is over in Calixtas gallery, but the circumstances change Alcees behavior into passionate man who wants the flesh of woman. Bobint is protagonist, it is showed in the beginning and in the end of the story that he is a good husband who always love his wife. Bibi is protagonist, it is showed in the beginning of the story that he is a wise son who feels worry about his mother who are being alone in the middle of the heavy rain. It written in the chapter one first paragraph, Bibi was four years old and looked very wise. There is an antagonist in the story, it is the circumstances, because it is the factor that indicates Alcee and Calixta for doing the love affair. Without the supporting circumstances, they probably will not do the love affair. 2.2 Setting The setting of this story is physical setting. It happens in Calixtas house and when the rain falls.

2.3 Point of View The point of view of this story is third person omniscient. It shows from the whole story that the narrator explains everything, the characters feeling and what the characters are doing. As written in the chapter one and chapter two on the text where the narrator move from Bibi and Bobints setting at the Friedheimers store to Calixtas setting at their house. In our opinion, the narrator using third person omniscient to explain everything that happens in the story so the readers can imagine and get into the story. 2.4 Plot The plot of the story is chronological, because the story tells sequentially from the beginning until the end of the story. Orientation The story begins when Bibi and Bobint are trapped by the rain in the Friedheimers store. Raising Action The first conflict happens between Alce and the circumstances. It shows in the chapter two, the fifth paragraph when Alce is actually intended to remain outside, but the water beat in upon the boards in driving sheets, and he went inside, closing the door after him The second conflict is between the anxious Calixta about her husband and son and Alce who wants to cheer her up. It shows in the chapter two sixteenth paragraph, after Alce tries to cheer her up and encircled his arm to Calixta, then she says, Bont! she cried, releasing herself from his encircling arm and retreating from the window, the house'll go next! If I only knew w'ere Bibi was!

The raising action is when Alcee feel his desire of Calixtas flesh, and then he kisses her and reminds Calixta about their passionate love memory in Assumption. Climax The climax of this story is when the circumstance, the pouring rain, is supported Calixta and Alcee doing the love affair. The love affair shows in the chapter two from the nineteenth paragraph until twenty-second paragraph. Resolution The resolution of this story is after the love affair happened, Alce go from the house, then Bobint and Bibi come back to their house and everyone continues their life as if nothing happened. 2.5 Theme The theme of this story is a love affair can be happen because of the supporting circumstances. 2.6 Moral Lesson The moral lesson from this story is we have to be aware of the temptation that indicates us to do things that we are not supposed to do. It shows from chapter 2 of the text when Calixta cries and Alcee try to cheer her up with encircled his arm to Calixta then the love affair happens. So, we have to avoid that kind of circumstances.
