theclearspanor3/4inch
(20mm),whicheverissmaller.
Calculateddefectionsshallbe
relativetosupportingmembers.
Commentary: Thedefection
calculationsdonottakeinto
accountconstructionloads
becausetheseareconsidered
temporaryloads.Thedeckis
designedtoalwaysbeinthe
elasticrangesoremovalof
temporaryloadsshouldallowthe
decktorecover.Thestructural
steelalsodefectsunderthe

cripplingcapacity.Thedeck
mustbeadequatelyattachedto
thestructuretopreventslipoff.
6. DiaphragmShearCapacity:
Diaphragmswithout
concreteshallbedesignedin
accordancewiththeSDI
Diaphragm Design Manual,
orfromtestsconductedbyan
independentprofessional
engineer.
Commentary: Calculationsof
diaphragmstrengthandstiffness
shouldbemadeusingtheSDI

testingisusedasthemeansfor
determiningthediaphragm
strengthandstiffness,thenit
shouldfollowtheAISITS7-02
testprotocol.
B. ConcreteSlabDesign:
1. General:Thedesignofthe
concreteslabsshallbedonein
accordancewiththeACI
Building Code Requirements
for Reinforced Concrete. The
minimumconcretethickness
abovethetopofthedeckshall
be1-1/2inches(38mm).
Randomlydistributedfbers
orfbrousadmixturesshallnot
besubstitutedforweldedwire
fabrictensilereinforcement.
Commentary: Infollowingthe
ACIrequirementsfortemperature
reinforcement,thedesignermay
eliminatetheconcreteareathat
isdisplacedbythedeckribs.For
slabswithtotaldepthof3inches
(75mm)orless,thereinforcing
meshmaybeconsideredtobe
atthecenteroftheconcrete
abovethedeck.(RefertotheSDI
Designing with Steel Form Deck
forslabdesigninformation)If
uncoatedorpainteddeckisused
astheform,theloadfrom
concreteslabweightmustbe
deductedfromthecalculated
capacityofthereinforced

2. Concrete:Concretedesign
shallbeinaccordancewith
theapplicablesectionsof
theACIBuilding Code
Requirements for Reinforced
Concrete.Minimum
compressivestrength(fc)shall
be3ksi(20MPa)orasrequired
forfreratingsordurability.
Admixturescontaining
chloridesaltsshallnotbeused.
Commentary: Theuseof
admixturescontainingchloride
saltsisnotallowedbecausethe
saltswillcorrodethesteelnon-
compositefoordeck.
3. CantileverLoads:When
cantileveredslabsare
encountered,topreinforcing
steelshallbeproportioned
bythedesigner.For
constructionloads,thedeck
shallbedesignedforthemore
severeof(a)deckplusslab
weightplus20psf(1kPa)
constructionloadonboth
cantileverandadjacentspan,
or(b)deckplusslabweight

3.1 Installation/General:

B. Deckpanelsshallbeinstalledon

afterconcretehasattained75%
ofitsspecifeddesignstrength.
