What things you need to avoid doing or saying to your manager in order not to destroy your career?
You should always know that no matter how hard you tried to do your job in the best way, or how much time you spend learning, executing and commissioning your work tasks, you should always watch out with your behavior against your co-workers and most importantly against your manager. There are always lines that you should never cross when dealing with your manager to avoid destroying your professional relationship with your manager and later destroy your career. Sometimes the work pressure you have and the massive long list of tasks that you have to maintain within specific time mainframe could lead you to say or act in unresponsive and unprofessional manner which ends up effecting your job evaluation or appraisal and stops your career developments and future position promotions you have so long waited for therefore you should always and under any circumstances learn to hold your emotions and watch out from acting any of the bellow list, it could be a little bit hard and sometimes onerous but with little perseverance and self-training you can refine your professional personality. So without any delays below is the list:
1- Don't give the impression that you couldn't do the tasks assigned to you by your manager in any way without even giving it a try or doing an assessment to your capability of doing it. remember that your manager assigned this task to you either because he have some exceptions from you and has a faith in your capability or he want to judge your ability to learn new tasks, which means he has some plans for you. But if your response were limited or negative, this will lead your manager to doubt in your capabilities and that he was giving you more than what you can handle! 2- If your receive any negative comments from your manager about the work that you have done, and even if you believe that you have done all what you can do or believe that what you have done is totally right, don't ever response to him saying that this is the best that you can do! this could give him the impression that no matter what tasks you have done or whatever experience you have you couldn't develop yourself any more or that you lack creativity and the ability to analyze issue and solve problems! 3- Don't ever tell your manager "Is this the best thing you can do", you can't suspect your manager capabilities or to underestimate the effort he have done. If you ever to advise your manager for the development of your company work or to ask of any enhancement for yourself, you should always pick a nice and supportive words and not an offensive ones! 4- Saying to your manager "This is not my problem or not my work", sometimes your manager assign to you some tasks that are not related or regularly not done by you. you have to know that your manager and most of the time already knows that and the reason why he did assign it to you is that the person regularly responsible for it have some issues that prevent him from doing it, your manager can't wait for that person to do it and that he has faith that you can do it, although sometimes this is not the case but most of the time it will be, you should always try your best to do that tasks and even if you couldn't; you should give the impression to your manager that the lack of some information or training on how to perform that task is the reason behind you being not able to execute it and not because you lack the capability to perform such a task or not willing to do it because you are just not responsible for it. 5- Don't let your manager feel that you're not able or not willing to finish a task in the planned time frame, or letting him feel that he have to be involved in every step and have to solve the silly problems that you face, if he has to be there for every single step so why even hiring you to do that task as he could do it himself. But in the same time some issues that prevent you from performing your job which are out of your hands and needs his direct intervention has to be clearly mentioned before it could cause a serious delay to the task execution! you have to be clever, balance, and
know exactly the things that requires your manager direct supervision and what you could do by your own, he should feel that he can count on you. 6- Keep the relationship between yourself and your manager in a professional manner, don't try to make friendship with him or ask him to add you in Facebook, Twitter or any other Social Medias specially if you manager were a woman it would be inappropriate to ask her for that, and remember that Social Medias are your place to connect with your friends and family members and be on your free nature and even let your feeling go about your job, you don't want to keep watching your activity and comments being afraid that your manager could judge your abilities based on your thoughts and comments on Social medias, except of course if your manager ask you first to add you on any Social media but then you have always to remember not to cross the lines and to try to be as professional as you can.
