Language function: Saying what a place is famous for
Grade: Three

Listen

A: What is your country famous for?

B: I think sport, sheep, and its beautiful scenery.

A: How about your city? Where do you come from?

B: I come from Auckland.

A: What is it famous for?

B: I think it's famous for its beaches, its tower, and many yachts.

A: I see. Thank you.

B: You're welcome!

Form

Draw attention to the stressed words in the question, “WHAt is /wa:tiz/ your COUNtry FAmous for?”

Play

Aim: To guess the country as quickly as possible.

Students work in pairs. Distribute an A and B card to each partner. Students take turns guessing
what the country is.

Students get points for correct guesses as follows:

a. first sentence = three points.


b. second sentence = two points.
c. third sentence = one point.

A student can get a maximum of three points for each country.
