On behalf of our client, Augsburg College, KeyStone Search is conducting a retained search for a Vice President of Institutional Advancement.

Augsburg College is a high quality liberal arts institution set in the heart of Minneapolis, Minnesota. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Vice President of Institutional Advancement is the senior leader of all fundraising staff and activities for Augsburg College. As a member of the Office of the President, this individual participates in shaping the overall strategic direction for the institution and is responsible for the leadership of the institutional advancement department. The Vice President plays a pivotal role in creating, planning and implementing the fundraising initiatives and programs that attract and steward the financial resources required to fulfill the institutions mission, around $10 million annually. The role articulates the Colleges case for philanthropic support, builds relationships, leverages networks, cultivates opportunities and seeks significant gifts. The Vice President of Institutional Advancement leads the advancement staff and is responsible for meeting the annual and long-term goals for the department. Under the direct purview of the Vice President are major gifts, planned gifts, capital campaign leadership, alumni relations, development events, and fundraising from foundation, corporate and partner organization sources. The Vice President is responsible for gift processing and acknowledgement, overall donor relations, research and staff management.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Staff members reporting directly to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement are: Assistant Vice President of Development, Sr. Director, Alumni and Constituent Relations, Director, Corporate & Foundation Relations, Director, Advancement Services & Prospect Management, Administrative Assistant. A total of 24 individuals work in the Institutional Advancement area. This position reports to Dr. Paul Pribbenow, President of Augsburg College. Before coming to Augsburg in 2006, Dr. Pribbenow served as president of Rockford College in Rockford, Ill. He also has served as research fellow for the Center of Inquiry in the Liberal Arts at Wabash College (Indiana); dean for College Advancement and secretary of the Board of Trustees at Wabash College; vice president of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; and associate dean of the Divinity School of the University of Chicago. Pribbenow holds a BA from Luther College, and an MA and PhD in social ethics from the University of Chicago. Other positions reporting to the President and serving on the Presidents Cabinet include Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the College; Vice President of Finance and Administration, Chief Financial Officer; Vice President of Enrollment Management; Vice President and Chief Information Officer; Vice President of Student Affairs; Vice President of Marketing and Communication; Assistant Vice President of Human Resources & Chief Diversity Officer; and Assistant Vice President and Dean of Undergraduate Arts and Sciences.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Key accountabilities for this position include: Develop, implement and evaluate annual and multi-year goals and strategies for the advancement function designed to maximize financial support. Provide leadership in the development and implementation of annual operating, endowment and capital campaigns in collaboration with the President, the Board of Trustees and the leadership of the Institution. Lead staff in increasing the level of philanthropic support from: o Individuals (including Major gifts) and coordinate the management of major gifts prospects with the President. o Foundations, corporations, partner organizations. o Alumni relations. Oversee the continuation of a major capital campaign, with groundbreaking of a new Center for Science, Business and Religion to take place in 2014. Explore, research and plan new philanthropic opportunities. Influence the development of comprehensive proposals and promotional materials which support fundraising strategies. Supervise fundraising events. Foster a creative and productive work environment. Lead and mentor the staff and regularly identify and recruit a diverse workforce for the advancement team. Hire, coach, supervise, and evaluate staff; facilitate training, coaching, and goalsetting. Develop, implement, monitor, and assess fundraising and gift-processing policies. Prepare and monitor the annual fundraising budget. Represent the advancement function to the Office of the President. Serve as the liaison to other departments within the college.

QUALIFICATIONS
This executive role requires a Bachelors degree. An advanced degree and/or the CFRE or ACFRE designation is preferred. A minimum of 10 years of leadership in advancement, demonstrating an increasing level of responsibility and performance in fundraising is vital. The Vice President of Institutional Advancement will have a strong background in the field of development. Some of that background will include work in the higher education sector. A commitment to the Lutheran history and philosophy of the college will be highly valued. Important expertise to bring to this position includes past success with capital campaigns, soliciting and closing leadership gifts and building relationships with existing and new constituent groups, as well as experience in data management, budget administration, communications, strategic and tactical planning, including participation in cross-functional teams. This leader will have demonstrated success in motivating others and experience in process management and process improvement.

The Vice President of Institutional Advancement should embody and reflect the values of Augsburg College and be committed to and enthusiastic about the mission, academic programs and student services of Augsburg College. Other important qualifications are: Demonstrated maturity and ability to manage multiple, simultaneous priorities. Competency in connecting with multiple generations and diverse types of donors with a consistent message. High degree of competency in writing, public speaking, and interpersonal communications. Ability to recruit, lead, coach, inspire, manage and retain talented staff members and develop high performing teams. Self-starter and finisher who is creative and entrepreneurial, as well as teamoriented and collaborative and with others at all levels of the institution. Proven problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities on varying deadlines and bring new concepts to fruition. Well-organized, with exceptional attention to detail and follow through. Ability to be resourceful, with the ability to anticipate and act on events and opportunities that advance the College locally, regionally and nationally. Experience with and commitment to institutions of higher education. Strong professional initiative, bearing and confidence. Self-aware and able to manage self and model effective leadership approaches and behavior. Proven high degree of integrity, ethical decision-making and sound business judgment; able to honor high degree of confidentiality. Able to build consensus in approach and accomplishment of common goals in a manner which best serves the institution. Able to negotiate, compromise and facilitate success among diverse work groups. Knowledge of fundraising metrics and management dashboards. Able to develop and manage budgets. Project monitoring, reporting and conflict management skill and knowledge. Leadership and personnel skills and ability to motivate staff and develop high performing teams.

COMPENSATION
The compensation for this position is commensurate with experience and competitive with similar institutions. A full benefits package is also provided.
