but some take this sport to the extreme. Frank Schaeffer is the son of a theologian and a supposed Orthodox Christian since 1990, and he has brought this art of attacking Christianity to a new low. Here are some of his comments concerning Christians, Evangelicals and others who are the mainstream of America's Christian population. Frank was a recent guest on Martin Bashir's show on MSNBC. He was brought on to comment about the conservative Christian three-day conference held in Washington, D.C. The group is known as the Faith and Freedom Coalition. Their stated goal is to help Americans make America great and nothing more. Here's their creed from their own web page. "We believe that the greatness of America lies not in the federal government but in the character of our people the simple virtues of faith, hard work, marriage, family, personal responsibility, and helping the least among us. If we lose sight of these values, America will cease to be great. Never before has it been more critical for us to speak out for these values. That is why the Faith and Freedom Coalition is committed to educating, equipping, and mobilizing people of faith and like-minded individuals to be effective citizens. Together we will influence public policy and enact legislation that strengthens families, promotes time-honored values, protects the dignity of life and marriage, lowers the tax burden on small business and families, and requires government to tighten its belt and live within its means." As always, there are those who disagree with such moderate sentiments, and Mr. Schaeffer is one of these types. He denounces the meeting as if it was a Christian Taliban one. "I think what you have to understand when you look at the religious right in action these days is that they speak in Orwellian doublespeak. They say the opposite of what they mean. They talk about faith and freedom, the conference should really be called Politics and Bondage. Look, what's the common denominator of all their faith and freedom politics? It's to take away the freedom of choice for women, to take away contraceptives from women who work for Roman Catholic institutions, to take away choice for women, to take away gay marriage from gay people, this is not freedom. This is another form, the American form of Sharia law being imposed because of religious fiat," Frank insisted. But wait there's even more outrageous statements to follow the previous ones. "When you're looking at the religious right, you have to balance their hatreds," Schaeffer noted, insisting that evangelical Christians in this election have the quandary of "do they hate the Mormonism of Mitt Romney more than they hate the pretended Islamic faith quote unquote of the president?" They have lied about our first African-American president, and they will turn their backs on their Hispanic brothers in Christ, in the Christian community, in order to maintain their race-based American and race-baiting white politics." He's not finished quite yet. He throws his final dart at Christians with no ligitamite response or reproof by host Bashir. Schaeffer throws down the race card once again and insists that conservative evangelicals are really upset with Obama because he's "a black man sitting in the White House that in their view belongs to white people, I guess, in perpetuity." He failed to give any evidence or proof of any of his slanderous attacks. But what he did do was expose what heart was truly all about. For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. In other words, your sin will find you out either through your words or deeds. Only God can break through hearts of stone and minds of brass. We all should pray that this man would serve God instead of his own personal agenda. To that end, pray for him, this country and all those around you so that we would be more like God and less like ourselves.
