INTRODUCTION 1. Big house a. In English, big is adjective and house is noun. b. In Arabic, and are both ism. c. In short, Ism is person, place, thing, idea, adjective, adverb and more. 2. Ism has 4 types: a. Status b. Number c. Gender d. Type

STATUS 1. Three types of status: Raf', Nasb, and Jarr a. Raf' Doer of an act. E.g. Allaah created me. The doer is 'Allaah', hence He is Raf'. Summary Raf' describes who. b. Nasb Detail of an act, such as when, why, how, etc. E.g. You helped me a lot yesterday. This sentence answers the details such as whom, how much and when. c. Jarr After 'of'. E.g. The friend of yours; a student of mine. His book is new, rephrasing it would be 'The book of his is new.' Hence 'his' is Jarr in 'his book is new.' d. The boy (R) ate (Fa'il discussed later) your (J) lunch (N) quickly (N) last week (N). 2. How to tell the status a. The order of the words play very important role in English sentence construction. b. Raf' by ending sound 'un' raf' raf' light. c. Nasb by ending sound 'an' nasb nasb light. d. Jarr by ending sound 'in' jar jarr light. 3. I (R - un) read a book (N - an) 4. A book (R - un) fell 5. Note: All the sing., pair and plural learned so far are termed as heavy version due to the presence of 'noon' sound at the end. The light version is obtained by deleting the 'noon' sound in each of the above examples. For e.g., is heavy and is light; is heavy and is light and so on.

FLEXIBILITY OF STATUS 1. Fully flexible (words that go along with page 6) a. Raf' (Un/U) E.g. , b. Nasb (An/A) E.g. , c. Jarr (In/I) E.g. , 2. Partly flexible (locations & non-Arab names) a. Raf' (Un) E.g. , b. Nasb (An) Eg. , c. Jarr (In) E.g. , 3. Partly flexible are always light and NEVER end with 'I' sound even if they are Jarr. The Nasb and Jarr forms end with 'A' sound. 4. Non-flexible all the 3 forms are the same. E.g. is the same for Raf', Nasb and Jarr.

H.W Tell the status of all the words on pages 9, 10, 13 Do the exercise on pg. 7. Anything that is benefitted from the notes is from Allaah 'Azzawajal; any mistakes & ignorance is from myself and Shaitaan.
