Merchants Financial Group Attn: Alberta Rosburg, HR P.O. Box 248 Winona, MN 55987 Dear Ms. Rosburg: I am applying for the position of Marketing Assistant/Graphic Designer. My experience with advertisement production, graphic design and web maintenance makes me highly qualified for this position. My duties at the Post-Bulletin began with proofreading and advertisement tracking and processing. Those responsibilities have steadily increased to include advertising design and prepress tasks. I create advertisements using Adobe CS3 and paginate them, in prepress, using QuarkXPress. I previously used QuarkXPress 4 to paginate the sports agate section of the Winona Daily News and La Crosse Tribune while working for the River Valley Newspaper Group. CorelDraw 10 was the software I used to create vinyl banners and printed posters at Schott Distributing in Winona. Through my education, work experience and freelance projects, I have gained experience with a wide range of different platforms. I am competent using both Macs and PCs. I use Photoshop for photo editing. I am proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and FrontPage. I have also enhanced my understanding of marketing requirements. For example, for website users, I have learned how to minimize the number of clicks necessary to retrieve information. At Schott Distributing, I became skilled at designing posters that drivers could easily read from a distance. I maintain a personal website in addition to having extensive experience using the web. From 2003 until 2006, I maintained a website for the Minnesota Future Problem Solving Program (www.mnfpsp.org). With critical analysis of a sites credibility, I have used the web for a variety of tasks, from verifying the content of an advertisement I am proofreading, to troubleshooting a computers performance issues. At the Post-Bulletin in Rochester, I have gained extensive experience with deadline-driven attention to detail and accuracy. The responsibility of processing and tracking advertisements to ensure that they are printed accurately and on time has sharpened my organizational skills. My degree in Communication Studies taught me about many aspects of

I apply this academic knowledge at the Post-Bulletin by collaborating with the advertising sales department and the prepress department on a daily basis, and the pressroom and editorial staff regularly throughout the week. I look forward to scheduling an interview with you soon. Sincerely,
