SPECIFICATIONS FOR NON METALLIC CONDUIT AND FITTINGS WITH LOW SMOKE ZERO HALOGEN (LS0H) CHARACTERISTICS

Non-Metallic Conduit & fittings: Shall be manufactured from specially formulated PVC-free compound exhibiting Low Smoke, Zero Halogen (LS0H) characteristics, UL 94 recognized, V-0, with Super High Impact performance, inherent flame retardant characteristics, low heat combustion, and self extinguishing properties in accordance with BS 60754-2, IEC 60754-2, VDE 0472 part 815 and BS EN 61386-21. The weighted pH value shall not be less than 4.3 and the weighted value of electrical conductivity and combustion gases shall not exceed 10 S/mm. The Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) of the compound used shall be not less than 30%. Rigid Conduit: The outer dimension of all the Conduits shall be in accordance with BS EN 60423:1995 The minimum outer diameter of conduit used shall not be less than 20mm. Manufacturer shall declare minimum inside diameter of all sizes in accordance with their respective grade. All Conduits shall be manufactured and tested for its Mechanical and Electrical characteristics in accordance with BS EN 61386-21:2004 confirming to a compression force of 1250N <Heavy Grade> and withstand an impact of 6.8Kgs drop from 300mm high at a minimum service temperature of -15C <Extra Heavy Grade> under classification <EN4531> of the standard. Conduit and fitting shall be type tested from a reputed, accredited laboratory approved by a local body. Type test certificate shall be renewed every 5 years to ascertain continual performance of rigid conduits and fitting to the requirements of BS 60754-2 & BS EN 61386-21:2004. Rigid conduits shall have adequate mechanical and thermal stability and when compressed or exposed to impacts at extreme temperatures (60C), either during or after installation shall show no cracks or any form of deformation to such an extent that prevent, hinder or damage wires or cables whilst drawing in. Conduit colour shall be Light Grey (RAL 7035). Inner and outer surfaces of Conduits shall be smooth, glossy and free from burrs, sharp edges or any such defects, which are likely to damage insulated cables and conductors or inflict injury to the installer. Conduit shall be non hygroscopic, non-porous and its wall thickness shall be uniformly distributed. Each length shall have at least one marking providing the manufacturers name/trade name, size, product code as per Manufacturers Catalogue, Relevant Standards, i.e. LS0H BS 60754-2 / BSEN 61386-21, Classification <4521>, Compression force <1250N>, Country of origin, date and time of manufacture. Marking shall be indelible and legible. Product shall be marked with the recycling sign in accordance with DIN EN ISO 11469. Manufacturers recommend bends shall be used wherever required. Conduit Fittings: Conduit fittings shall be of the same brand with LS0H characteristics, colour and origin as that of Conduits. All fittings shall be manufactured and tested for its Mechanical and Electrical characteristics in accordance with BS EN 61386-21:2004 Circular junction boxes shall be of circular pattern with robust well re-enforced raised back design. All circular boxes shall have a provision for earth terminal and shall be provided with 2 metal inserts. The inserts shall be manufactured from solid Brass, parallel ribbed and knurled, having length not less than 9mm and shall be robust to bear the load. Pillars housing the brass inserts shall have a tapered design avoiding slipping out of insert after installation due to extreme heat while on electrical load. The suspended load test for all circular junction boxes shall be carried out in accordance with classification 3 of BS EN 61386-1:2008. Boxes shall withstand a directly suspended load of 15 Kgs (150N) at 60C for 48 hours. All integral spouts for conduit and cable entries in circular junction boxes shall be internally tapered and shall be of robust construction having sufficient reinforcements and ribs externally. The entry length shall not be less than 25mm for spouts of circular junction boxes, adaptors and couplers. Adhesive: Conduits shall be jointed and terminated using designated and appropriate sealing cement/glue as recommended and supplied by the Conduit Manufacturer All Conduits shall be jointed with respective couplers for installing in continual lengths. Flexible Corrugated Conduit: Flexible Conduit shall be manufactured with the same LS0H characteristics and shall be of the same brand and colour as that of the rigid Conduits. The construction shall be robust with corrugations of conduit at right angle providing sufficient depth for flexibility and maneuverability. The Conduit shall be manufactured in accordance with BS EN 61386-22 Suitable adaptors of the same brand with the same LS0H characteristics shall be used wherever required.
