He has loved Katniss since they were little kids. After the war he returns to District 12 months after Katniss. The writer does not indicate if the two are married to one another only that they "grow back together" and they have two unnamed children, a boy and a girl. Primrose Everdeen Katniss's little sister. She helps Katniss keep sane when Peeta is not there. Prim worked as a healer in District 13, and died during a bombing by Coin's soldiers when a hovercraft with parachute bombs dropped on a herd of capitol children. Prim was working as a doctor in the explosion. Gale Hawthorne Katniss's best friend and hunting partner. He is in love with Katniss, but they don't end up together because Katniss associates him with the bombing that killed her sister and can't stand to look at him. Note: Gale helped in the creation of the bomb that lead to the end of Prims life, though he was not behind that specific bombing. Gale eventually takes up a successful position in post-war District 2. Haymitch Abernathy A drunken former victor from District 12 who used to be a mentor for the Hunger Games. He helped in the rebellion and then returned to District 12, where he remains a drunk. Victor of the 50th Hunger Games. Johanna Mason The female tribute from District 7. She participated in the 71st or 72nd Hunger Games, and participated again in the third Quarter Quell. President Coriolanus Snow The cruel President of Panem, who died from either choking on his own blood or being trampled. Katniss pointed out that no one cared and it didn't matter. He smells of roses and blood and poisoned people to come to

power. He also drinks the poison when he poisons people as to not look suspicious. He takes an antidote after, but it does not stop open sores from forming in his mouth, which give off a bloody smell that he uses rose perfume to cover up. President Alma Coin President of District 13. She authorized the final bombing of the Capitol's children, which killed Prim. Katniss kills her for vengeance during Snow's execution. Boggs Katniss's bodyguard and army captain. He is killed in battle, but not before transfering command and the Holo to Katniss so she can continue her mission of killing President Snow. His last advice is to kill Peeta, not trust anyone, and do what she came to the Capital to do, kill Snow. Commander Paylor The leader among the rebels in district 8, and later became the president of Panem. Catching Fire Characters

Katniss Everdeen - Returns as the narrator and the main character for the second installment, facing new challenges. In order to prove her desperate action at the end of the first Hunger Games was triggered by mindless love and not rebellion against the Capitol, she is forced to convince the nation of her undying love for Peeta. Unfortunately, she supposedly fails President Snow's inspection. When she is forced to compete in the 75th Hunger Games (also known as the 3rd Quarter Quell), Cinna dresses her in her wedding dress for her interview, but because of his alterations, the dress burns off in synthetic fire into her mockingjay outfit. Katniss battles with her devotion to Peeta versus Gale, and remains undecided. Peeta Mellark Katniss's seventeen-year-old fellow tribute, who has now become her fiance. Peeta volunteers to take Haymitch's place in the Quarter Quell, in an effort to keep Katniss alive. During the Quell, Peeta runs into a force field and his heart stops, but their ally Finnick Odair restarts it with CPR. Peeta is among those captured by the Capitol at the end. Haymitch Abernathy Katniss and Peeta's mentor in The Hunger Games. He is an alcoholic, and drinks to escape the torture of the Games. He was the only living victor in District 12 before Katniss and Peeta in the 50th Hunger Games, another Quarter Quell. Haymitch is the duo's instructor throughout The Hunger Games and Catching Fire. Because he favored Katniss's survival in the first games, he promises Katniss that he will help Peeta to survive this time. Gale Hawthorne Katniss's best friend and hunting partner in District 12. He is nineteen years old, fiercely hates the Capitol, and wishes to start an uprising as the people of District 8 did. Katniss must pretend that they are cousins to keep him alive, or President Snow could order to have him killed since he suspects that Katniss has feelings for him, not Peeta. Before the Quater Quell, he is whipped within an inch of his life by the cruel new peacekeeper for poaching a wild turkey. President Coriolanus Snow The President of Panem. He speaks to Katniss face to face for the first time at the beginning of Catching Fire. President Snow is described as having very puffy lips which was most likely from an appearancealtering operation that is very popular in the Capitol. His breath smells slightly of

blood, and because of this he wears a genetically-modified white rose in his breast pocket to cover up the smell. Finnick Odair The handsome male tribute from District 4. He won the 65th Hunger Games by using a trident and net (District 4's trade is fishing) and his goodlooks to win sponsors. Katniss is hesitant to make Finnick her ally at first due to his seemingly shallow and arrogant personality, but he proves to be valuable and altogether trustworthy. Finnick is a key person in the rebellion, as revealed to Katniss in the hovercraft at the end of the book. Plutarch Heavensbee - Plutarch was the Head Gamemaker of the 75th Hunger Games. During Katniss' Victory Tour, He tipped her off that the Arena was a clock. Katniss later learns that he was part of a secret group who's main objective was to take down the Capitol. Mags The female tribute from District 4, and Finnick's mentor during the 65th Hunger Games. She is around 80 years old and volunteers to take the place of a young woman, Annie Cresta, to spare her from the Games. Mags is one of the first people Katniss wants for an ally, along with Beetee and Wiress, due to her overall kindliness. Katniss observed that she can make a fishing hook out of anything. Unfortunately, while the group are trying to escape poison fog, Mags gives herself up without question so Finnick can carry a wounded Peeta to safety. Johanna Mason The female tribute from District 7. She won an earlier Hunger Games by pretending she was a weakling until there were only a handful of tributes left, then showing that she could kill viciously. Katniss remembers watching these Games herself, so Johanna is fairly young. Johanna is captured by the Capitol at the end, along with Peeta and Enobaria. Beetee The male tribute from District 3. Also known as "Volts", he is extremely intelligent and a crafty inventor. He notices a soft spot in the Capital's forcefield surrounding the Gamemakers, and points this out to Katniss in training. This convices Katniss that Beetee and Wiress would make good allies. During the Quater Quell, he uses a special wire he designed to blow up the arena's forcefield. Beetee joins Katniss at the end on the way to District 13. Wiress The female tribute from District 3. Due to the fact that she often doesn't finish her sentences, Johanna refers to her as "Nuts". Beetee often finishes them for her as the two are good friends, thus the joke "Nuts and Volts". However, like Beetee, she is also very intelligent, and is able to figure out that the Quarter Quell arena behaves like a clock, with different challenges at appearing at a certain time and place on the face of the clock. During the games, she is killed by the male tribute from District 1, Gloss, who slits her throat. Enobaria The female tribute from District 2. She is famous for ripping a tribute's throat out with her teeth during the Games that she won. She is a threat to Katniss in the arena, but is later captured by the Capitol along with Peeta and Johanna. Cinna Katniss's stylist, who continues to help Katniss outsmart the Capitol with his sly designs. During the Quater Quell, he transforms Katniss's wedding dress into a symbol of resistance, the mockingjay. Darius - Friendly, red-headed Peacekeeper from District 12. He is turned into an Avox and made to serve Katniss and Peeta during the Quell because he attempted to stop Gale's whipping after 20 lashes.

Seneca Crane - Former Head Gamemaker. He is killed for allowing Katniss and Peeta to get away with the berry suicide pact. President Snow implies that he was killed for his lack of foresight. Hunger Games Characters

Katniss Everdeen The story's main protagonist, a sarcastic, determined and strong-willed teenager. Katniss lives in the coal-mining District 12, one of the poorer districts, and lives in the part nicknamed the Seam. She often hunts outside of the District's walls in order to feed her family. Her father was a coal miner who died in a mine accident. When Katniss' sister Primrose is picked from the reaping for the Hunger Games, Katniss volunteers to take her place. Her hunting and archery skills are key assets to her in the Hunger Games. She has straight black hair, light gray eyes, olive-colored skin and usually wears her hair in a braid. She is nicknamed Catnip by her best friend, Gale, when they meet for the first time in the woods hunting. Peeta Mellark The male tribute from District 12, Peeta is a baker's son. He has been in love with Katniss since they were five years old, and he once saved her from starving. Peeta is characterized by a likable personality, strategy, and selflessness. He has blond hair, not like the people from the Seam, the poor part of District 12 where Katniss lives, who have black hair. Gale Hawthorne The best friend of Katniss, she and Gale met when she was only twelve and he was fourteen after both of their fathers died in the same mining explosion. Gale hunts with Katniss in the forest, usually everyday but in Catching Fire, he only hunts with her on Sundays. Katniss mistakenly assumed their relationship was not romantic. He was whipped about 40 times in Catching Fire when he went to give a turkey to the old Head Peacekeeper. Mrs. Everdeen - She is Katniss's mother. She went through a great depression because of the death of her husband in the mining accident. She abandoned her children by closing herself up in her bedroom to stare at the walls, not eating for days, ignoring their hunger and pleading for interaction for months afterward, eventually leaving Katniss to begin to support the family and find ways to forage and hunt, eventually even trading for what they needed, as well. She has blonde hair and blue eyes with light colored skin, being from the Merchant part of District 12. Cinna Katniss's stylist, who later becomes her close friend. Cinna is clever and supportive. He lives in the Capitol. Portia Peeta's stylist, works with Cinna. Lives in the Capitol. Rue The tribute from District 11. Small and bird-like, she is underestimated in the games, but her knowledge of trees and how to hide keeps her alive longer than expected. She also reminds Katniss of Prim. She warns Katniss about the tracker jacker beehive, muttations that were once set out by the Capitol to ease away the rebellion. Unfortunately, Rue was killed by the boy tribute from District 1, Marvel, who had thrown a spear into her stomach. Katniss sang Rue to sleep, then death, and after Rue closed her eyes and the cannon shot, Katniss gathered flowers and covered Rue with them showing the Gamemakers that she was 'more than just a

piece in the games'. She also sang a song that she had learned, for her father also used to sing before his death. Throughout the books, Katniss mentions Rue on numerous accounts. Katniss had a special connection to Rue because she reminded Katniss of her beloved sister Prim. Cato The brutal District 2 tribute. Described as a "ruthless killing machine", he is extremely strong and was the most likely choice of a winner. He, Katniss, and Peeta were the last three tributes to face the muttated wolf-like creatures that were some form of the other deceased tributes. Cato had been weakened by the muttated dogs. Katniss and Peeta hid on top of the Cornucopia for one last night in the arena waiting for the cannon signaling Cato's death, but it didn't come. At last, he emerged as a "raw hunk of meat". After hours of moaning and groaning, Katniss decided to end his misery by shooting an arrow into his skull. Clove The female tribute from District 2. She is very skilled in knife throwing, as she was the one who killed the male tribute from District 9, who had been the first tribute to die in the Games. She was the fifth from the last person to die and went to the "feast" (where she was killed) having Cato guarding her. Killed by a large rock, thrown by Thresh, she seemed to have a connection to Cato due to the rule change. After admitting she had some involvement in the killing of Thresh's district partner, Rue. He fractured her skull with a rock "the size of a small loaf of bread". She dies in Cato's arms, as Katniss flees for her life. Foxface Known by no other name, this red-head from District 5 is wily and elusive. Though she doesn't have brute strength or knowledge of weapons, she can outsmart everyone in the arena. She's killed by accident by the poisonous berry Nightlock, when stealing food from Peeta and Katniss. She placed fourth in the Games. Thresh The male tribute from District 11 keeps to himself. He disappeared during the first part of the game. This made him even more dangerous because he was hiding out in a wheat field with adequate shelter and food. He spared Katniss's life because she was friends with Rue. It was implied that he was killed by Cato, but this is unknown. Glimmer The female tribute from District 1, who was very beautiful. Described as very sexy, with long, blonde hair and emerald green eyes. She was killed by Katniss' tracker jacker attack. She provided her DNA for making a muttation and it is unknown if she lived during the fight with Cato, Peeta, and Katniss. Marvel The male tribute from District 1, who was part of the Career pack. He was killed by Katniss, after he killed Rue by spearing her in the stomach. Haymitch Katniss and Peeta's mentor. Haymitch is the only survivor of the Games from District 12. Dangerous and cunning, Haymitch was mostly drunk, with a glass in one hand and knife in the other. He would sleep with a knife in his hand. He promised he would sober up long enough for Katniss and Peeta to play the Games and help them. He sends Katniss gifts throughout the book to help her survive. He won during the second Quarter Quell where double the tributes were required. Effie Trinket - The escort for the tributes of District 12, Katniss and Peeta. She is very prim and proper, and is known for having a distinct Capitol accent. Manners are very imprtant to her as well as keeping a schedule. She dresses oddly as she is a

resident of The Capitol. She helps organize gifts alongside Haymitch to send Katniss during the games. She also chose the tributes during the Reaping of the 74th Hunger Games. She tried to help Peeta and Katniss with their manners and etiquite but was appaled at Katniss's lack of them, she quickly grew frustrated and gave up. She is quite happy and relieved when both Katniss and Peeta survie the games. Primrose "Prim" Everdeen The younger sister of Katniss Everdeen. In the first book of the series, she is only twelve, and out of the odds of a thousand, she is chosen. She owns a goat named Lady and a cat named Buttercup. Lady provides dairy for the Everdeen family. Very much unlike her older sibling, Prim has a heart full of compassion and an affinity for healing.
