The Central Government approves 16 foreign direct investment (FDI) proposals worth Rs. 891.71 crore 18 July, 2009 The visiting United States Secretary of State Hill-ary Clinton announces United States support to the steps that India and Pakistan were taking to tackle terror. The former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Jagannath Pahadia, and the former Union Minister of State, Mar-garet Alva, are appointed Governors of Haryana and Uttarakhand respectively. Noted historian and former Rajya Sabha member Manmath Nath Das passes away in Bhubaneswar. 19 July, 2009 United State Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Union Minister of State for Environment Jairam Ramesh agree to join forces to combat the threat of climate change and its consequences. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) decides to rope in an international partner for the design and development of the much-needed turbo trainer for the Indian Air Force. India finishes with a haul of four medals - one gold (Vidhi Hathi-Jodhpur, Rajastan), two silvers (SChetan-Bangalore and Usnish Adhikari-West Bengal) and a bronze (Amit Gupta-Punjab) - at the 20th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) at Tsukuba in Japan. India and the United States finalise three hi-tech agreements with the visiting Secretary of State Hillary Clin-ton singling out the military end user agreement as the harbinger of greater defence cooperation. The Rajya Sabha passes The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Bill 2008, which envisages providing free and compulsory education to children in the 6-14 age group.
