In literature, Romanticism found recurrent themes in the evocation or criticism of the past, the cult of "sensibility" with its emphasis on women and children, the heroic isolation of the artist or narrator, and respect for a new, wilder, untrammeled and "pure" nature. What are the elements of romantic writing?

College student: Hey, I wrote a paper on this topic! Romantic writing puts emphasis on emotion rather than on the intellect; in other words, human feelings and intuition are put above all else. Romantic writers often relate their themes to the criticism of the past, the heroic isolation of the artist or narrator, and a respect for a new, wilder and pure nature. Nature is important to Romantic writers because it is believed to possess the ability to help man find his true identity. Other elements of Romantic writing include a love for the exotic, fascination for the mysterious and supernatural, defiance of ordinary moral codes, and representation of the common people. Many of the works at the time have improbable plots, inadequate or unlikely characterization, immorality, and remoteness of settings in time and space. Romantic writing stresses creative imagination as the source of art, as it is a spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings."

How does his work reflect the passion of the movement? This is a replication of William Blakes The Ancient of Days. Many believed he was mad and criticized his works. I however, believe that William Blake was a talented Romantic poet and artist. He expressed his dissatisfaction to the organization of society. Blakes earliest works show his rebelliousness towards religious hypocrisy and the repression of royal authority. He was never inclined to represent the materialistic things around him. I admire Blake because he wasnt afraid to break away from societys norms and express his personal feelings. Blake rejected rigid social and literary hierarchy so he created his own rules for his works. He also rejected all of the conventional norms of religion and formed his own beliefs. His works are imaginative, spiritual, and passionate. In this particular replication of The Ancient of Days, Blake created his own image of God. Although blasphemous, Blake continued to express his imagination in his works or art and literature.
