201 Battery Park Road
Smithfield, Virginia 23430 The Sherri Parker Memorial Poker Run & Bike Show
(Rt. 10 Business) was held on Sunday, October 26, 2008 in Driver. The
Behind Farmers Bank weather was perfect for a great ride and bike show. A
record number of friends old and new came out to show
their support and what an awesome sound of thunder
it was as the bikes rolled into Driver! Sherri lived in
Driver her entire life and was loved very much by her
family and friends. This event is a wonderful way for her
friends and family to celebrate the memory of someone
so terribly missed by all. Sherri was tragically killed by a
hit and run driver 15 years ago while riding her Harley.
She loved nothing better than to ride – rain or shine
and it didn’t matter where you went – just put it in the
wind. Sherri never met a stranger, always rooted for the
underdog, and was a true friend .The monies raised

port of the biker community the garden stays in bloom
all year. It is such an incredible feeling to know that this
ride that myself and Eddie Boyce started has turned

into an annual event for so many bikers. As Sherri’s

twin sister I thank all of the volunteers who came out
and made the day so special. Many of these friends
knew Sherri her entire life and rode a many of mile with
her. We all get very emotional on this day as they share
some of their memories that they have of her. They
have become very dear to my heart and very special
friends to me and my family. The bike show was incred-
ible with 10 categories of deserving winners. We also
saw some bikes we hadn’t seen at our show before
and that was pretty cool too. Jason Boyce, Brad Brown
and I did the judging and both of those guys know their
stuff! Gary Harvey took Best in Show with his awesome
softail and that was an emotional moment for his family

You’ve all heard the phrase “Live Free, Ride Free”. Well, not
many things in life are FREE anymore, but Thunder Roads Maga-
zine has been & always will be one of the only free publications
that you can pick up each month within the Mid-Atlantic. We’re
here to bring you businesses that you can count on, news,
events, information & entertainment for motorcycle riders &
enthusiasts throughout our region. Our magazine is made pos-
sible each month not only by talents contributed our staff, but
financially by the businesses who advertise with us & our Biker
Friendly sponsor locations. Their advertising dollars pay for the production, printing & distribution
of Thunder Roads which is how we are able to keep our magazine FREE for everyone. These are
the people who care enough for our motorcycle community to support what we do here at Thunder
Roads & help us get it out there for you each & every month of the year. Our goal is to be able to
reach as many riders as possible so we’re always looking for businesses who welcome our 2 & 3
wheeled friends of the road. The more businesses that advertise or become a Biker Friendly spon-
sor, the more magazines we can print & send out. It’s only $20 a month to advertise in our direc-
tory which includes monthly shipment of magazines too. Where else could so little give so much
in return to our motorcycle community? If you know of any “Biker Friendly” businesses who may
want to help bring Thunder Roads through their doors for the riders, email thunderroadskelly@
yahoo.com & we’ll get them rolling right away.

uted new and used toys. On Reserve drill weekends during
October, November and December, Reserve Marines refur-
bished the used toys.
From Christmas 1980 through the present, Marines
have collected and distributed only new toys. Three fac-
tors dictated this change. First, the Secretary of Defense’s
Total Force Program, introduced in the 1970s, assigned
Reserves a greater role in America’s defense posture. As
a consequence, Reservists had to dedicate every minute
of weekend drill time to honing and polishing combat skills.
No time was available to refurbish toys. Second, public
awareness of the health and safety aspects of toys that
developed during the 70s made distribution of used toys
legally inadvisable. Third, distributing “hand me down” toys
does not send the message Marines want to send to needy
children. The goal is to deliver a message of hope, which
will build self-esteem and, in turn, motivate needy children
to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and
community leaders. A shiny new toy is the best means of
accomplishing this goal.

Tommy Mooses
The first Va. Mooseriders were formed in December 2004. We have suffered through the growing pains and organization
hurdles and grown to a respectable size. We owe this growth to our member’s dedication to their fraternity and to the abil-
ity to have enough foresight to realize the enormous potential of such an endeavor. Our members have done a great job
of supporting many Moose charities and lodge functions, not to mention community projects. Our participation in these
community projects serves as a great opportunity to raise interest in our Fraternity as well as our Mooserider Committee.
The District 8 Mooseriders were formed in August 2007. It consists of Blackstone, Chester, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie,
Hopewell and South
Hill. Today, Decem-
ber 6, 2008, we are
donating 24 Tommy
Moose stuffed animals
to the Petersburg Fire
Department to help a
child/children in a crisis
situation. This is just a
small gesture to give
back to the community.
