The Treaty of Versailles It was what encouraged and incised Hitler to begin his campaign Fascism The ideology behind Hitlers regime Appeasement as Hitler took over countries To keep the peace Non-aggression pact with Russia Made it so Germany only had to fight one front, concentrating attacks Inflation Paying the treaty of Versailles made the currency inflate to obscene amounts.

They turned against the Soviet Union, breaking the non-aggression pact. Japanese bombs destroy almost half of USAs navy A failed rescue mission by Canada lead everyone there to be either killed or captured A failed night attack on the French port if Dieppe. The cliffs, lack of tank and air support and secrecy caused it to fail An urban fight that lasted 4 days and involved Canadians mouse holing through buildings to get from place to place The allied invasion on the beaches of Normandy Significance Germany increased in power slowly, making it harder to defeat later Britain would have lost almost all of their forces right there British victory while outnumbered gave them a lot more confidence and anger to continue fighting. This meant Germany was fighting two fronts again. Brings the Americans into the war, adding more firepower Japanese round up in Canada and British front on the Pacific is lost The allies learned much more from the attack, the Germans became more confident, the Soviets were more discouraged. Controversies:
Conscription Crisis It was necessary for more troops since people were dying too fast overseas, but King and the people didnt want it, while the conservatives did. When the military threatened to resign, King turned it so that it was the militarys fault, not his and had Louis Saint-Laurent vouch for him in Quebec. Hiroshima The atomic bomb was dropped onto thousands of innocent people and caused years of suffering, but globally it may have saved many lives by quickly ending the war Japanese POW camps It was atrocious. Men were starved and abused, but often they sabotaged the materials they were supposed to make for the Japanese to use for the war. Holocaust Another uncontroversial atrocity. People who were not of a certain race and social class were sent to work camps and eventually, death camps.
