1.3.1 Precautions
Only qualified service personnel may carry out maintenance and service work mentioned in this service manual!
For your own protection, observe the following safety precautions when installing, operating and servicing the device:
Before operating the units please read this manual thoroughly and retain it for future reference! Observe all warnings and instructions printed on the devices! Servicing not explicitly mentioned in this manual must never be carried out by unauthorized personnel! Never open the case of the unit without first disconnecting both power supply cords! The appliance couplers on this unit must be used for disconnecting the unit from the mains circuit. For removal of all power from the unit, always disconnect both supply cords. To prevent fire or electrical shock hazard, do not expose this unit to rain or moisture! This product should be operated from an AC power source! Check that the voltage and frequency of your power supply match those printed on the device label with the rated electrical values! If you are not sure of the type of AC power available, consult your dealer or local power company! This product is equipped with a 3-wire grounding plug, a plug having a third (grounding) pin. This plug will only fit into a grounding-type power outlet. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug into the outlet, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the purpose of the grounding-type plug! This equipment must be grounded (earthed) via the supplied 3 conductor AC power cables. (If the supplied power cables are not the correct one, consult your dealer.)
1.3.2 Servicing
Mechanical or electrical modifications others than described in this manual must not be made to the devices. Barco is not liable for damages resulting from modified devices.

Before opening the case, switch off the Hydra! Disconnect all power plugs!
The boards of the Hydra contain CMOS components. Do not touch the components, they could be destroyed!
If the HYDRA is mounted in a rack, it has to be removed out of the rack to have access to the top cover of the device. Dependent on the length of the data- and network cables connected to the HYDRA, they must be unplugged to remove the HYDRA out of the rack. Loosen the housing screws [1], [2] and [3] shown in Figure 2-3 side view of the Hydra on both sides of the case. For these screws you need a size 2 Phillips screwdriver.
Loosen the housing screw [4] shown in Figure 2-4 top view of the Hydra. Now you can easily remove the top cover. If you have removed the top cover of the Hydra in order to exchange a fan, be sure to replace the cover before powering up again!

Replacing a power module Locate the defective power module by examining the green LEDs [42] on the individual power modules. If an LED is not lightened the respective power module is defective. Turn off the individual power switch [43] of the defective power module! Use gloves to remove the power module. The cover of the power module is been used as heat sink for cooling, usually the temperature is around 50 60 Celsius under full condition! Loosen the securing screws [39] of the power module! Use the handle [40] to remove the defective power module by pulling it out! Put the power module aside for cooling down. Keep it away from other people unless it has cooled down! Take a good power module and check that its power switch [34] is switched off. Turn on the power module with the power switch [43] on the power module! Check if the green LED [42] turns on! Check the green LED power failure [30], which indicates the total power system status. The LED may not blink! Tighten the securing screws [39]!

Now you can see the four DC fans. Check if they are spinning well. The defective fan does not spin at all or it spins too slowly. Open the top cover of the HYDRA as explained in section 2.1.5 Opening the top cover of the Hydra. Looking from top to the HYDRA you see the four DC fans close to the front cover. Loosen the securing screw [5] of the defective DC fan.
Unplug the fan upward out of the HYDRA. Plug a new DC fan in the empty slot. Tighten the securing screw [5]. Replace the top cover and tighten the screws of the top cover. Close the filter flap. Lock the front cover. Remove the HYDRA to its location and reconnect the cabling.
