As Chairperson of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the affiliated teaching hospital, the teaching, administrative and clinical responsibilities are coupled with research guidance of junior colleagues, postgraduate trainees and students. In addition to undergraduate training, the department is recognized for postgraduate training for the M.R.C.O.G (Membership, Royal College of obstetricians and Gynecologists, UK) and F.C.P.S (Fellowship, College of Physicians & Surgeons, Pakistan) As Chairperson of the department, I serve on the following committees of KMDCAcademic Council, Research and ethical committee, Postgraduate selection committee, Internship and house job committee, and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital purchase committee. Experience in Medical Education. 24 years of experience in Medical Education after Postgraduation (1985), have always worked in Teaching Hospital establishments. Experience in this aspect includes: A. Undergraduate Education Director of the Undergraduate Programme, Obstetrics & Gynecology a. Department, the Aga Khan University and the Phase II (Clinical Disciplines) b. Co-ordinator, the Aga Khan University 1988-1996 Director, Clinical Rotations (IV year & V year), KMDC. 1999-2002 Continuous teaching and Training of Undergraduate Student of KMDC in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Organization of the teaching programme in this specialty and supervision of research projects of the undergraduates. Examiner and Paper setter for Undergraduate Exams of Colleges affiliated with Karachi University and other universities. These include: i. Karachi Medical & Dental College ii. Formation of a Question Paper Bank (SEQs and BCQs), University of Karachi. In the year 2006-2007, this Bank includes Basic Science subjects (Medical and Dental), but will eventually include all clinical subjects as well. The Bank will replace traditional paper setting by examiners. Working group chaired by me has studied and structured a template symester system to replace the traditional annual system in Karachi University colleges.

Member, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council. The PMDC is the statutory government body formulating the rules and regulations on Medical and Dental Education in Pakistan. I represented the University of Karachi on this council, which meets about three times a year. Member, PMDC Curriculum committee and PMDC postgraduate committee. These committees are, at present, restructuring the undergraduate MBBS and BDS curriculum and reaccrediting institutions for postgraduate programs throughout the country. Have been part of Committee [Jan 2010]reviewing Technical procedures to be allowed as part of practice of the new MBBS graduate. Organization of workshops for faculty of colleges affiliated with University of Karachi on Evaluation Strategies, specifically SEQs and BCQs March 2005, June and Nov 2007, March and April 2008, March and April 2009.

B. Postgraduate Education The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Karachi Medical Dental College, is recognized by College of Physician Surgeons of Pakistan for MCPS (Membership College of Physicians & Surgeons) and FCPS (Fellowship College of Physicians & Surgeons) training and Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynecologists (UK) for MRCOG training. The residency programme has been streamlined to meet the requirements of the above colleges. The residency programme is a 4 year programme training Obs. - Gynae residents in clinical practice to equip them as independent consultants in this field following FCPS/MRCOG Examination. Experience is this aspect includes. I. (i) (ii) Continuing Medical Education: Postgraduate Courses at the CPSP including workshop/clinical sessions for FCPS students. I am a regular lecturer and facilitator at these courses. The last lecture was in November 2009. Organizing and running postgraduate courses, seminars, ward rounds, case presentation at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for MCPS/FCPS Candidates. Latest post graduate course was organized at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital on 6 october 2010. These are run yearly or twice a year. Continuing Medical Education Seminars in the Aga Khan University and Liaquat National Medical College, Dow Medical College, facilitated the latest post graduate course at Aga Khan University, 11th July 2009 and LNMC on 19th November 2009 Organized Basic and Intermediate Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology workshop at Abbai Shaheed Hospital, February 2008. Organized Gynaecology and Obstetrics session of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital symposium and the pre symposium workshop on attempting Short Essay Questions, 13th and 14th March 2009. Invited speaker at the Liaquat National Hospital annual symposium. Delivered lecture on Evaluation of CIN, 28th March 2009. Discussions with General practitioners at the Family Planning Association of Pakistan. Have written Protocols in urdu on Obstetrics Emergencies for the Rural North of Pakistan which were used as guidelines in the Aga Khan Health Service,198895. Have prepared Guidelines for Emergency Ob/Gyn Care for emergency room, AKU residents,1990. Invited speaker at the Essa Laboratories CME session for General Practitioners. Delivered talk on Prevention of Gynaecological Cancer,28 October 2010. National Strategic Plan for Continuing Medical Education in Pakistan,C.P.S.P. Part of the core group of the CPSP who have formulated the above plan for continuing medical education for faculty for the first time in Pakistan. This document is in the final stages of approval by the Government of Pakistan before implementation throughout the country.

This includes Theory paper setting and preparation of Task Oriented Assessment of Clinical Skills (TOACS) & Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) Construction of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ,S) and one best answers questions and Conduction of clinical examinations and vivas IV. Inspector For Assessment College Of Physician And Surgeon Inspection of Training Programmes of Institution Enrolling MCPS & FCPS Candidates For Postgraduate Training. Have inspected various institutions on behalf of the CPSP for initiation and accreditation of training for postgraduation in these institutions. V. University of Karachi Lead inspector for assessment and inspection of colleges affiliated or to be affiliated with the university The Dean is the principal inspector reviewing and assessing Undergraduate programs and facilities for training medical and dental undergraduates at the different institutions affiliated with the university. Restructuring of the M.S, M.D and M.Phil programmes, University of Karachi. A committee, chaired by me has reviewed and restructured the course content, duration and training programme of the various disciplines of the University with the introduction of one year basic course work, structured training, continuous assessment and objective evaluation. The new MS MD Programme was started by the Karachi University in 2008.A specially designed Entrance test was introduced by the medical faculty for the first time and determines admission in the postgraduate programme.
