Swingtheshutterreleaselock(h)outoftheway,thenreleasetheshutter eitherbypressingdirectlyontheshutterreleaseknob(3)orindirectlyby depressingthereleaseknoborrockerarm(27)onthe lens.Whenyouhavefinishedtaking pictures,swingtheshutterreleaselock(4)sothatitcoverstheshutter releaseknob(3),makingshutterreleaseimpossible,thusavoiding unintentionalexposures.

Filmloading Loadingandchangingthefilmmustnottakeplacein directsunlight!TheEXAKTAVX1000usesstandard35 mmminiaturefilm,incassettesof20or36exposures,to makenegatives24mmx36mm.Perfectfilmtransport requiresfaultlessfilmcassettes.Daylightloadingspools shouldonlybeinsertedincassettesmadebythesame manufacturers. 1.Depresscamerabacklock(2) downwards.Openhingedcamera back. 2.Pullouttherewindcrank(39)bymeansofitsknob.

3.Insertthecassettecontainingtheunexposedfilminthefeed chamber(41).Pushtheknoboftherewindcrankbackintothe camerabody.twistingtheknobgentlyineitherdirectionto engagethedog(40)withthebarinthecassettecore.

4.Removethetakeupspool(32)fromthechamber(33). Pushthebeginningofthefilmundertheclampingspring ofthetakeupspoolandwraponehalfturnroundthecore ofthespool.

5.Replacethetakeupspool(32)inthefilmchamber(33) andturnitslightlyinthewindondirectionsothatthe frictiondog(11)oftherapidwindlevercoupleswiththe barinsidethespoolcoreandallowsthespooltobe pushedrighthomeintothechamber(33).

6.Swingtherapidwindlever(8)rightuptoitsstop(ifnecessaryfirst releasingtheshutter).Thesetwoprocessesmayhavetoberepeateduntil theteethofthefilmwindsprocket(34)engagewiththeperforationholes onbothsidesofthefilm.

7.thecorrectlyinsertedfilmrunsfromthefullcassetteastightlyas possibleoverthefilmguiderunners(35)intothesomewhatdeeperlying filmtrackandoverthefilmwindsprocket(34)ontothetakeupspool (32).

Usingatakeupcassette
Inplaceofthetakeupspool(32),anemptystandardtypefilmcassettemay beplacedinthetakeupchamber(33).Takecaretochecktheconditionof thistakeupcassettethoroughly:thecoreshouldmoveeasilywithintheshell ofthecassetteandmustnotjam(ifnecessarythefrictionpointofthe cassettecoremaybelubricatedbyrubbingthemwithparaffinwax).When usingatakeupcassetteproceedasfollows:attachtheleadertongueofthe filmtothecoreofthecassettespool,ensuringthatthebarinthecoreofthe spoolisontherightasthespoolisturnedawayfromthebody,andinsert thecassettesothatthefrictiondog(11)oftherapidwindlever(8)engages withthebarinthecoreofthespool.Thencheckthatthefilmispulledtaut betweenthetwocassettes,andislyingcorrectlybetweentheguides,against theregisterrailsinthedeeperchannel.

Itisnotnecessarytotrimthebeginningofthefilmspecially.Anyshape ofleadercanbeusedwiththetakeupspooloftheEXAKTAVX1000, eitherthenarrowtongueprovidedonstandardcommercialcassettes,or, evenbetter,astraightcutacrossendasobtainedwhencuttinglengthsof filmfrombulkrolls.Whenemployingatakeupcassettethefilmmustbe trimmedtosuitthecoreofthecassettespool. Operatingtheshutter 1.Theshutteristensionedandthefilmwoundonbyoperatingtherapid windlever(8).Thislevershouldalwaysbeswungrightuptoitsstop,and willthenspringbackofitsownaccord.(Thefastreturninglevershouldbe restrainedgentlywiththethumb.) Thetensioningoftheshutterandthetransportationofthefilmorecoupled (avoidingunintentionaldoubleexposuresandblankframes).Itis impossibletoreleasetheshutterbeforeithasbeenfullytensionedandthe filmwoundon.Neverforcetherapidwindleverbackfromany intermediatepointinitstravel. Shouldthelevernotspringbackautomaticallywhenthecameraisempty, theback(42)shouldbeopenedandthefilmwindsprocket(34)turneda littletowardstheexposedfilmchamber(33).Therapidwindlever(8) shouldbegentlynudgedduringthisoperation. 2.Therefleximageintheviewfinder(FinderHood,PentaPrismorLens Magnifier)willbevisibleevenaftertheshutterhasbeenreleased.(Instant returnmirror.)Theredwarningsignalintherefleximageindicatesthatthe cameraisnotyetreadyforaction,andthattherapidwindlever(8)mustbe cockedbeforetheshutterisreadyforrelease(seeillustration:refleximage seenthroughPentaPrism).

3.Shutterspeedsfrom1/1000sec.to1/30sec.cansafelybeemployed withouttheuseofatripod.Forexposuretimesof1/8sec.andlonger, includingdelayedactionexposures,thecamerashouldbefirmlysupported (onatable,againstawall)oronatripod.Thetripodsocket(44)issituated underneaththeEXAKTAVX1000.

Forallexposuretimesof1/8sec.orlonger,orexposuresusingthedelayed action,lenseshavingautomaticdiaphragmsshouldbesettomanualinorderto avoidprematureopeningoftheaperture.WhenusingtheDomiplan2.8/50

lens,acablereleasewithalongplungerandtimeexposurelock,orthespecial lockingknob(availableasanaccessory)shouldbeemployedfortherelease rocker.Formoreinformationregardingthis,seethedetaileddescriptionof lensesonpages2831.

Inordertoavoidprematureopeningtotheaperture,forlonger exposures,bothwhenusingthelargeshutterspeedsettingknob (18)andwhenemployingtheBandTsettingsonthesmall speedsettingknob(10),andalsoforalldelayedaction exposures,eitherofthefollowingproceduresshouldbe adopted:Screwacablereleasewithalongplungerandtime exposurelockintothereleaserocker.Inthiswaypressurecan bemaintainedonthereleaserockerorbodyshutterreleasefor anydesiredperiodwithouthavingtokeeponesfinger constantlyontherelease(alsoeliminatingcamerashake). Engagetheautomaticdiaphragmmechanismbypushingtherelease knob(27)onthelenstowardsthecameratogetherwithit5mountand turnittotheright(viewedfromthefrontofthecamera).Todisengage theautomaticdiaphragm,pressthereleaseknob(27)togetherwithits mounttowardsthecameraandturnittotheleft(againlookingfrom thefront).Whentheautomaticmechanismisdisengaged(=manual

diaphragmsetting),thediaphragmwillremainstoppeddowntothe selectedf/No(thisisImportantwhenusingslowshutterspeedsand delayedactionexposures).Whentheautomaticmechanismis engaged,thediaphragmshouldbefullyopenedforfocusing.Select therequiredsmalleraperture(largerf/number)byturningtheaperture settingring(26),whichcanalsobesettointermediatestops.By depressingthelensreleaseknob(27)thediaphragmisstoppeddown automaticallybylettinggoofthereleaseknob(27)thediaphragmre opensautomatically.

Pressureonthereleaseknob(27)shouldnotberelaxeduntiltheshutterhasclosed.To checkthedepthoffieldwhilstfocusing,depressthelensreleaseknob(27)justfar enoughtostopdownthelensasrequiredwithoutreleasingtheshutter,Inorderto ensurethattheshutterreleaseknob(3)onthecamerabodyisalwaysdepressedfar enoughtotriggertheshutter,thesetscrewonthereleasemechanismofthelensshould beadjustedtotherequiredlengthwithascrewdriver.Acablereleasewithalong plungercanbescrewedintothelensreleaseknob(27). AutomaticdepthoffieldindicatoronthePancolar2/50lens:Aftersettingtheaperture anddistance,followtheappropriateblack/whitebandsfromthetwomovableblack markerstothedistancescale,uponwhichthedepthoffieldrangecanbereadoff. Example:aperturesettingf8,distance5meters(17ft)=depthoffieldfrombarely3 meters(10ft)toover15meters(actually23metersor76feet). 3.Changingthelens(28)(selectautomaticonalllensesfromJena):depressthe lockinglever(30)towardsthelens,thenturnthelenstotheleftuntilthetworeddots (23and29)areinline,andliftthelensouttowardsthefront.Toinsertalensproceed inthereversesequence:lineupthereddots,andturnthelenstotherightuntilitlocks.
