1. Objective – Based on facts and logic.

2. Subjective – Based on opinion, feeling, and individual perception.

11. Rhyme Scheme – A pattern of rhymes at the end of lines of poetry

12. Meter – A consistent pattern of accented and unaccented syllables in a line of poetry.

17. Catalog – There are frequent lists of people, things, and attributes.
18. Repetition – Words or phrases are repeated at the beginning of 2 or more lines.
19. Free Verse – No rhyme scene, no meter, and no stanza.
20. Gothic literature – Literature featuring grotesque characters, bizarre situations, and violent
events, often takes pages in medieval castles, dungeons, and graveyards.

25. Symbol – A thing or action meant to represent something beyond the surface meaning.
26. Aphorism – A brief Statement, usually one sentence long, that expresses a general principle or
truth about life.
27. Verbal Irony – Saying the opposite of what is really meant, for effect.
28. Dramatic Irony – When the reader or audience knows how to be true the opposite of what a
character believes to be true.
29. Situational Irony – When an outcome is the opposite of what is expected or of what rightly
“should” be.

30. Main Clause – Phrase with noun and verb which can stand on its own as a sentence.
31. Subordinate Clause – Phrases with a noun and verb which cannot stand on its own as a
sentence.
