This study will help to target the reasons of low achievement motivation in students. It will be helpful in fine tuning the interventions in improving the levels of achievement motivation in students. The population of the present study consists of all the IX standard boys and girls studying in the Gujarati medium secondary schools and the sample will be 300 IX standard students selected by Multistage sampling method. Survey method is used for this research. The researcher will apply the Achievement Motivation scale prepared by Dr.R.S.Patel. The statistical techniques of t-test was used.

Hence, the hypothesis rejected at 0.01 level. It further indicates that the IX standard students of urban and rural areas of Ahmedabad having low achievement motivation differ in their mathematical achievement Ho3: Table - 3 t-test of IX standard boys and girls having high achievement motivation Gender N Mean S.d T-value Significance Girls 72 33.79 7.41 0.938 N.S. It further indicates that the boys and girls of IX standard having high achievement motivation do not differ significantly in mathematical achievement. Table- 4 shows that t-value which is calculated i.e. tcal=2.065 which is more than t0.05=1.96 difference is significant at 0.05 level. Hence, the hypothesis is accepted. It further indicates that the boys and girls of IX standard having low achievement motivation differ significantly in their mathematical achievement. Findings : 1. The IX standard students residing in urban and rural areas of Ahmedabad having low achievement motivation differ significantly in their mathematical achievement. 2. The IX standard students residing in urban and rural areas of Ahmedabad having low achievement motivation differ significantly in their mathematical achievement. 3. The boys and girls of IX standard having high achievement motivation do not differ significantly in their mathematical achievement. 4. The boys and girls of IX standard having low achievement motivation differ significantly in their mathematical achievement. Conclusion: The independent variable of area is found to have a significant effect on the mathematical achievement of the IX standard students, however it has been observed that the other independent variables like gender and do not have significant effect on the mathematical achievement score.
