1.0 Institute Survey of India, the National Survey Organisation of Government of India was established in 1767 and Survey Training Institute (STI) raised during 1967 as Human Resource Development Institute within Survey of India under the technical assistance from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Now it is recognized as the prestigious training institute to impart training in the fields of Geodesy, Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing, Cartography, Digital Mapping & GIS and Topographical Survey & Land Information System & GPS, Digital Image processing. The M.Tech/M.Sc.Degree shall be conferred jointly by the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University and Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping, to candidates, who are admitted to the programme and fulfill all the requirements for the award of the Degree. 2. 0. Eligibility / Selection 2.1 Internal Candidates from Survey of India :- Officers of Survey of India are eligible for the courses with the following criteria; M.Tech programme: who have completed the Surveying Engineers Course conducted by Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping. M.Sc. programme : who have completed the two year Surveying Supervisor course conducted by Survey of India. In both the cases, Candidates have to apply to the Surveyor General of India to undergo the above course. Candidates sponsored by SOI shall be permitted to join the course without entrance/admission test, provided the candidates fulfill the eligibility criteria. 2.2 Sponsored Candidates :- Candidates sponsored by Central / State Governments / Public Sector Undertakings / Private Institutions are eligible for the courses with the following criteria; M.Tech programme: B.E. / B.Tech / AMIE or equivalent in any branch of Engineering or M.Sc Degree in Mathematics / Physics / Statistics / Computer Science / Earth Science / Electronics and two years experience in surveying/ mapping / GIS / RS.

M.Sc. Programme: Science graduates with Mathematics at least at plus two/Intermediate/Higher Secondary level is essential and two years experience in Surveying/ Mapping/GIS/RS is necessary. Sponsored candidates have to apply through their organization and a certificate from the sponsoring organization is to be attached. They will face a screening committee to be held at Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping for admission in to the course. Such candidate will join the course in 1st Semester. 2.3 Private Candidates :- Eligibility criteria for the course is as follows: M.Tech programme: B.E. / B.Tech./ AMIE or equivalent in any branch of engineering or M.Sc in Mathematics / Physics / Statistics / Computer Science / Earth Science / Electronics or equivalent with Mathematics as a subject at graduation level. M.Sc. Programme: Science graduates with Mathematics at least at plus two/Intermediate/Higher Secondary level is essential. Candidates for both the courses are required to appear for entrance examination conducted by JNTU. Selected candidates will be admitted in 1st Semester. Those candidates who have appeared/appearing for the qualifying examination in current session can also apply subject to submitting the successful certificate during admission. 3.0 Award of M. Tech /M.Sc.Degree :A student shall be declared eligible for award of M.Tech. or M.Sc degree, if he pursues a course of study and completes it successfully for not less than two academic years and not more than four academic years. Student who fails to fulfill all the academic requirements for the award of degree within four academic years, from the year of his admission, shall forfeit his seat in the M.Tech or M.Sc. degree. 4.0 COURSES OF STUDY :The following specializations are offered at present: i) M. Tech. (Geomatics) ii) M.Sc.(Geo-spatial Science & Technology) 5.0 Number of Seats :5.1 The total number of seats for M.Tech 25

Out of the 16 seats for private candidates 7 seats are earmarked for reserved categories as per the following distribution: (i). SC - 2 seats, (ii). ST -1 seat (iii) OBC - 4 seats. 5.3 Reservation Criteria: - Applicants shall be considered for reservation category, if applicable, only for the first admission in to 1st Semester for Private Candidates. SC/ST/OBC candidates are required to submit integrated caste certificate from a Mandal / Revenue Officer not below the rank of M.R.O/ Tahasildar. If sufficient number of candidates are not available, the seats will be filled up from internal candidates from Survey of India at the discretion of Surveyor General of India. 6.0 How to Apply 6.1 Form and Prospectus :Application with prospectus for Private / Sponsor / Internal Candidates of Survey of India is available in Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping, on payment of Rs.50/- during office hours on all working days. However, application can be had through post by sending a Demand Draft for Rs.100 (Rupees One hundred only) in favour of Establishment and Accounts Officer, Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping payable at UBI, IIS&M Campus (Branch Code No. 552356 ), Hyderabad. Prospectus and application form are also available on website www.surveyofindia.gov.in and/or http://soisti.ap.nic.in and can be down loaded free of cost. 6.2 Procedure for Filling up Forms :a. The form should be filled up by the candidate in his own hand writing in BLOCK LETTERS with appropriate response for all columns. NA should be written against column wherever applicable. No column should be left blank. b. The applicant should give the postal address correctly with PIN Code number. c. The applicant must give the postal address at the place specified for purpose in acknowledgement card.

d. The admission of the applicant shall be cancelled if the information provided in the application is found false at any time. e. The private candidates have to fill in the Hall Ticket Form also along with the Application form. 6.3 Submission of Forms :a. Application form duly filled in should reach Additional Surveyor General, Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping, Survey of India, Uppal, Hyderabad 500 039 latest by 31-05-2012 either by hand or registered post/speed post. b. The Institute shall not be held responsible for any kind of postal delay. The candidates are therefore advised to send their application forms sufficiently ahead of time. c. Application incomplete in any manner or received after due date will be rejected. 6.4 Documents to be submitted along with application form (Attested Xerox copies of certificates) : a. Certificate of Educational qualifications. b. Integrated Caste certificate from M.R.O./ Tahsildar or equivalent to Revenue officer in case of SC/ST/OBC candidates. c. Three self addressed envelops of 30 cm X 10 cm size each with Rs. 5/- stamps affixed. d. Proof of Date of Birth (SSC or equivalent) e. Transfer certificate (for private candidate). f. Registration Fee Rs.500/-(Rs.125/- in the case of SC/ST candidates) DD drawn in favour of "Establishment & Accounts Officer, Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping, Survey of India" payable at Hyderabad. 6.5 Choice of Centres :Private candidates have to mention three choice of centres priority wise where they want to appear for the entrance test. However, the allotment of centre for entrance test is at the discretion to JNTU / Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping. Centre once allotted can not be changed afterwards. It is to be noted that the allotment of centre among the choices depends on the availability of sufficient numbers of candidates in those centres. In case of non availability of sufficient number of candidates any of the 11 centres may be allotted. 7.0 7.1 a. Selection and Admission ( For private candidates only) :The selection will be made on the basis of fulfilling eligibility criteria as mentioned in Para 2.3 . A merit list will be prepared on the basis of entrance test held by JNTU. The syllabus for entrance is available along with the prospectus in website www.surveyofindia.gov.in and/or http://soisti.ap.nic.in. b. In case the candidates securing equal marks, preference will be given to the candidate securing higher mark in the qualifying examination, in case this leads to tie then preference will be given to higher age candidate. c. After drawing the final merit list, the selected candidates will be intimated through speed post / registered post indicating date and time of admission and documents to be submitted. The list will be displayed on the Notice Board of Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping, Survey of India and on the Notice Board of admission section in JNTU and also will be available in the website of both JNTU (jntu.ac.in) and www.surveyofindia.gov.in and/or http://soisti.ap.nic.in. 7.2 Documents to be submitted at the time of Admission :a. Intimation Letter

b. Original and one attested photo copy of mark sheet of Degree / Equivalent. c. College leaving certificate if applicable in original and attested photo copy. d. Original and attested photo copy in support of reservation. e. Two pass port size photographs f . Sponsoring certificates in original from the organization with one attested copy. 8.0 Attendance :The programmes are offered on a unit basis with each subject being considered a unit. 8.1 8.2 A candidate shall be deemed to have eligibility to write any semester examinations in a subject if he has put in at least 80% of attendance in that subject. Shortage of attendance up to 10% in any subject (i.e. 70% and above and below 80%) may be condoned by the Academic Committee on genuine and valid reasons on representation by the candidate with supporting evidence. 8.3 A candidate shall get minimum required attendance at least in three (3) theory subjects to get promoted to the next semester. subjects, as per the course structure. 8.4 8.5 Shortage of attendance below 70% shall in no case be condoned. EVALUATION :-

The performance of the candidate in each semester shall be evaluated subject-wise, with a maximum of 100 marks for theory and 100 marks for practicals, on the basis of Internal Evaluation and End Semester Examination.

9.1

For the theory subjects 60 marks shall be awarded based on the performance in the End Semester Examination, 40 marks shall be awarded based on the Internal Evaluation. The internal evaluation shall be made based on the average of the marks secured in the two Mid Term-Examinations conducted one in the middle of the Semester and the other immediately after the completion of subject lecture. Each mid term examination shall be conducted for a duration of 120 minutes with 4 questions out of 6 questions to be answered. For practical subjects, 60 marks shall be awarded based on the performance in the End Semester Examinations, 40 marks shall be awarded based on the dayto-day performance as Internal Marks. There shall be a seminar presentation during 3rd semester. For seminar, a student under the supervision of a faculty member, shall collect the literature on a topic and critically review the literature and submit it to the Head of Faculty in a report form and shall make an oral presentation before the Departmental Committee. The Departmental Committee consists of Head of the Faculty, supervisor, one senior faculty member of the Faculty and a university nominee. The Departmental Committee will evaluate the seminar for 50 marks. A candidate has to secure a minimum of 50% to be declared successful. A candidate shall be deemed to have secured the minimum academic requirement in a subject if he secures a minimum of 40% of marks in the End Examination and a minimum aggregate of 50% of the total marks in the End Semester Examination and Internal Evaluation taken together. In case the candidate does not secure the minimum academic requirement in any subject (as specified in 9.4) he has to reappear for the End Examination in that subject. A candidate shall be given one chance to re-register for each subject provided the internal marks secured by a candidate are less than 50% and he has failed in the end examination. In such case candidate must re-register for the subject(s) and secure required minimum attendance. The attendance in the reregistered subject(s) has to be calculated separately to become eligible to write the end examination in the re-registered subject(s). In the event of taking another chance, the internal marks and end examination marks obtained in the previous attempt are nullified. Laboratory examination for the courses must be conducted with two Examiners, one internal and one external one of them being Laboratory Teacher. The external examiner will be appointed by Additional Surveyor General, Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping/JNTUH.

EVALUATION OF PROJECT / DISSERTATION WORK :Every candidate shall be required to submit thesis or dissertation after taking up a topic approved by the Project Review Committee.

10.1

A Project Review Committee (PRC) shall be constituted with Additional Surveyor General, IIS&M as Chair person, Heads of all the Faculties of IIS&M, one senior

faculty member who is expert in the field / area chosen by the candidate and one JNTU nominee who is expert in the relevant field. 10.2 Registration of Project Work: A candidate is permitted to register for the project work after satisfying the attendance requirement of all the subjects (theory and practical subjects). After satisfying 10.2, a candidate has to submit, in consultation with his project supervisor, the title, objective and plan of action of his project work to the Faculty for its approval. Only after obtaining the approval of the Project Review Committee the student can initiate the Project work. If a candidate wishes to change his supervisor or topic of the project he can do so with approval of the PRC. However, the PRC shall examine whether the change of topic / supervisor leads to a major change of his initial plans of project proposal. If so, his date of registration for the project work starts from the date of change of Supervisor or topic as the case may be. A candidate shall submit status report (in a spiral bound-form), in duplicate, in two stages at least with a gap of 3 months between them. The work on the project shall be initiated in the beginning of the second year and the duration of the project is for two semesters for M. Tech students.. A candidate is permitted to submit Project Thesis only after successful completion of theory and practical course with the approval of PRC not earlier than 40 weeks from the date of registration of the project work. For the approval of PRC the candidate shall submit the draft copy of thesis to the Additional Surveyor General, Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping (through Head of the Faculty) and shall make an oral presentation before the PRC. On approval of PRC, three copies of the hard bound Project Thesis certified by the supervisor shall be submitted to the Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping. The thesis shall be adjudicated by one examiner appointed by the University. For this, Additional Surveyor General, Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping shall submit a panel of 5 examiners, who are eminent in that field with the help of the concerned guide and head of the Faculty. If the report of the examiner is not favourable, the candidate shall revise and resubmit the Thesis, in the time frame as prescribed by the Examiner. If the report of the examiner is unfavourable again, the thesis shall be summarily rejected.

10.10 If the report of the examiner is favourable, viva-voce examination shall be conducted by a board consisting of the supervisor, Head of the Faculty and the examiner who adjudicated the Thesis. The Board shall jointly grade candidates work as: A. Excellent B. Good ( above 75%) ( 60% to 75%)

C. Satisfactory ( 50% to 60%) D. Unsatisfactory ( below 50%) Head of the Faculty shall coordinate and make arrangements for the conduct of viva-voce examination. 10.11 If the report of the viva-voce is unsatisfactory, the candidate will retake the viva-voce examination after three months. If he fails to get a satisfactory report at the second viva-voce examination, he will not be eligible for the award of the degree. 11.0 AWARD OF DEGREE AND CLASS :

A candidate shall be eligible for the respective degree if he satisfies the minimum academic requirements in every subject and secures satisfactory report on his thesis / dissertation and viva-voce. First Class with Distinction : First Class : Second Class : 12.0 WITH-HOLDING OF RESULTS : If the candidate has not paid any dues to the Institute or if any case of in-discipline is pending against him, the result of the candidate will be withheld and he will not be allowed into the next higher semester. The issue of the degree is liable to be withheld in such cases. If the candidate resorts to ragging in the campus then his admission will be cancelled without assigning any reasons whatsoever. 13.0 TRANSITORY REGULATIONS : Candidate who have discontinued or have been detained for want of attendance or who have failed after having undergone the course are eligible for admission to the same or equivalent subjects as and when subjects are offered, subject to 9.5 and 3.0. 70% or more below 70% but not less than 60% below 60% but not less than 50%

GENERAL : 14.1 14.2 The academic regulations should be read as a whole for purpose of any interpretation. In case of any doubt or ambiguity in the interpretation of the above rules, the decision of the Vice-Chancellor of JNTU is final.

The University may change or amend the academic regulations and syllabus at any time and the changes and amendments made shall be applicable to all the students with effect from the date notified by the University. Wherever the word he, him or his occur, it will also include she, her and hers. The course will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping, Survey of India, Hyderabad. The maximum intake to the course will be 25, out of which 7 can be in service candidates from Survey Of India, as per the decision of the Surveyor General of India. The Selection / Admission of a candidate shall be invalidated in the event of suppression of facts, submission of incorrect information or forging of documents during the process of admission or thereafter, and such cases shall be reported to the crime branch who may draw criminal proceedings against the candidate concerned.

15. Hostel : The Institute provides hostel for boys and girls. There is no separate hostel for girls. Cooking is not allowed in the hostel. The residents are required to take meals in the mess provided in the hostel. Candidates should follow the rules of Hostel and Hostel mess strictly. Family accommodation is not available for the students. As Hostel accommodation is limited, it will be provided on first come first serve basis. 16.0 COURSE FEES : Course fee of Rs.1500/- per candidate per semester for Internal candidates of Survey of India. In case of sponsored and private candidates course fee is Rs. 2,500/- for Ist year and Rs.1,500/- for the IInd year per candidate. All the candidates have to pay Examination fee as per the rules of the University as mentioned in the examination notification. These fees will be paid to JNTU, to cover the Registration fees and examination fees. Tuition fees will be paid to the Survey of India as mentioned below : Private Candidates : Tuition Fee per semester - Rs. 12,000/Library Fee - Rs. 1,000/- (to be paid once only at the time of admission) Caution Money / Lab fee - Rs. 2,000/- (Refundable ) Service Tax (12.30 ) - Rs. 1,483/-

Course Fee to be paid by the foreign students is 4000 US$ in total for four semesters inclusive of local trip involved in the programme. 17.0 Field Visits : During the course the students may have to go for field visit to different places. The traveling expenses for out of station visits will be borne by the students or respective sponsoring organizations / agencies.

INSTRUCTIONS TO BE WITH ORIGINAL HALL TICKET


1. Candidates will not be admitted after the commencement of examination and not allowed to leave the hall until the end of the examination. 2. The Hall Ticket shall be produced at the time of examination, failing which the candidate will not be allowed to appear for the examination.

Answers must be in black/blue ink. Sketch pen or ink pen of any other colour is not allowed.

4. THE HALL TICKET SHALL BE PRESERVED TILL THE TIME OF ADMISSION - without which the candidate is not eligible for admission. 5. No travelling expenses will be paid for journey undertaken for appearing for the Entrance Examination.

6. Adoption of any kind of unfair means at the time of examination or taking part in any act of impersonation will render the applicant liable for cancellation of his/her script and forfeiture of his/her claim for appearing for the examination. Decision of the Chief Superintendent of the Examination Centre shall be final in all these matters. 7. Issue of Hall Ticket and appearance at the Entrance Examination does not automatically entitle a candidate for admission. 8. Mathematical Tables, Calculators, Pagers, Cell Phones, Digital Diary etc., will not be allowed into the Examination Hall.
