Brothers and sisters, I have good news. First, however, I would like to address the letter I sent to everyone yesterday by e-mail. I promise that it will connect to the good news, but I just want to get it out there. Before I go any further, let me say that I dont assume that everyone read, or even received, this letter. If you would like a copy, they will be available in the back of the church after the service. In it, I explain that Andrea and I have recently decided to complete our term of service here in Mexico, and return to the U.S. This means that Andrea will continue to coordinate the volunteer program, and I will continue to serve this congregation, until the summer of 2013just over a year from now. Please know that Andrea and I made this decision after a long and prayerful discernment process. It was not easy, but in the end we both believe that its the right decision. We have more than a year left in Mexico. For this time, we have one over-arching goal: to leave well. Since making this decision, I have been creating a list of things that I want to doto accomplishand goals that I have for this church. I want to help prepare you for the next chapter in this congregations life. I want to do so much over the course of the coming year that the list grows and growsand thenthe good news reminds me of who I am, and whose I am. I am only a branchbut I am a branchconnected to a vine, and cared for by a gardener. I am a disciple of Christ, loved by Godand this is true for each and every one of us. We are branches. We are disciples. God loves us. This, brothers and sisters, is good news.

It is good news because, in the midst of our lives that change and shift unexpectedly, and that seem to grow busier and busierthis text invites us to slow down, and it reminds us of who we areand whose we are. We are extensions of a divine life-giving lovewe are not the source. We are responsible for the fruit we bear, but it only grows through Gods grace. This mornings gospel lesson slowed me down during what has been a challenging time of understanding what my decision to return to the U.S. really means. I hope it might also slow you down. Sometimes everything that we want to do, and all that we want to accomplish, keep us so busy and so distracted that we forget the simple truth of who we are and whose we are. Ironically, its when we remember who we are, and whose we are, that we are free to do that to which God has called us. I would like to invite us to remember the good news we hear this morning, as we look toward the coming months. Remember who you are and who this church is. Remember that you and this church belong to God. Consider how God might be calling us, as a congregation, to live together in the coming months. What accomplishments might God have in store for usas Christs body? Its my prayer that, during this coming year, we will remember who we are, and whose we are, because it is in this, that we are free to do everything to which God has called us. Amen.

En el nombre del Creador, Redentor, y Sustentador, Amen. y buenos das. Hermanos y Hermanas, les tengo buenas nuevas. Antes que nada, me gustara hablar de la carta que les envi ayer por correo electrnico. Les aseguro que hay un enlace entre esta tema y las buenas nuevas para hoy, pero solamente quera hablar brevemente sobre la carta. No estoy asumiendo que todos de ustedes la han ledo, o que la han recibido . Si quieren una copia de la carta, estar disponible all atrs despus que el servicio termine. En la carta les explico que reciente, Andrea y yo tomamos la decisin de completar nuestro termino de servicio aqu en Mxico y regresar a los Estados Unidos. El significado que tiene esta decisin es esta: Andrea va a continuar la coordinacin del programa de voluntarios y yo voy a continuar sirviendo a la congregacin hasta el verano del ao 2013un poco mas de un ao a partir de hoy. Sepan que Andrea y yo tomamos esta decisin despus un proceso de discernimiento muy largo y con mucho oracin. La decisin no era fcil, pero en el fin, nosotros dos creemos que es la decisin es correcto. Todava tenemos ms de un ao para estar aqu en Mxico. Y durante este tiempo que tenemos, tengo una meta: terminar bien. Desde que tomamos esta decisin, he estado preparando una lista de cosas que yo quiero hacepara cumplir. He estado preparando una lista de metas que tengo para la iglesia. Quiero ayudarlos a ustedes para el prximo capitulo en la vida de esta congregacin. Quiero hacer tantas cosas durante el ao que viene que la lista de cosas que quiero hacer esta creciendoy luegolas buenas nuevas me recuerdan quien soy, de quien soy. Yo no soy mas que una ramapero yo soy una ramaconectado a una vid, y al cuidado de un jardinero. Yo soy un discpulo de Cristo, amado por Diosy esto es la verdad de cada uno de nosotros y nosotras. Nosotros somos ramas. Somos discpulos . Dios nos ama. Esto es, hermanos y hermanas, las buenas nuevas. Esto es las buenas nuevas porque, en medio de nuestras vidas que cambiaron en una forma inesperado y que parecen volverse cada vez mas ocupadas, la lectura nos invita a reducir nuestro velocidad de vida, y nos recuerda quienes somos y de quien somos. Somos extensiones de una amor divino que nos da vida. No somos la el rbol. Slo somos responsables por el fruto que llevamos, pero este fruto solamente crece a travs de la gracia de Dios. La lectura del evangelio para hoy me ha hecho detenerme durante lo que ha sido una poca difcil para entender lo que mi decisin de regresar a los estados unidos realmente

significa. Espero que la leccin hoy tambin los haga detenerse. De ves en cuando todo lo que queremos hacer y todo que queremos cumplir nos mantienen tan ocupados y distrados que olvidamos una verdad muy sencillo. De ves en cuando olvidamos quien somos y de quien somos. Irnicamente, es cuando recordamos lo que somos y de quien somos, que somos libres de hacer aquello a lo que Dios nos ha llamado. Me gustara invitarles a recordar las buenas nuevas que escuchamos esta maana cuando pensamos en los meses para venir. Recuerden quienes son y quien es esta iglesia. Recuerden que cada uno de ustedes y esta iglesia pertenece a Dios. Tenga en cuenta como Dios esta llamndonos, como congregacin, a vivir juntos en los meses que vienen. Qu logros podr tener Dios en guardados para nosotroscomo cuerpo de Cristo? Es mi oracin que, durante este ao que viene, vamos a recordar quines somos, porque es en esto, que somos libres de hacer todo aquello a lo que Dios nos ha llamado. Amn.
