CONTEXT The pupils already have prior knowledge in compound sentences, nouns, adjectives and the skill to identify them . With this exposure, the pupils will find it easy to understand the new lesson which is the compound words. The class is grouped heterogeneously, different exercises will be inculcated to meet their different learning style preferences. ORAL READING DRILL Ask pupils to read it all together. Ask pupils to read it by group. Then ask one representative to each group who can read it fast and accurate. Recognize by writing the name on the board the best reader for tongue twister Teacher will highlight correct pronunciation and division of thoughts. II. OBJECTIVES At the end of the 40 minute lesson, the pupils are expected to: Read fluently and articulately a tonge twister; Getting the main idea of the story; Note details of the story read; Identify and create compound words;

Naming of compound words; Distinguish solid compound, hyphenated compound and

open/separate compound words.

III. EXPERIENCE (November 21, 2011) Motive Question: Where do you usually see butterflies? What do you think some people use butterflies for? Is it good to catch butterflies? Pre-Reading Prelection: Teacher will let the pupil see under their chairs if they have the strips. Then, they will look or match the word to its meaning . Ask the pupil to post it on the board and read the words with its meaning. Then, ask the class to read all the words and its meaning. Vocabulary: pursuit carry on fragile easily broken ; weak plumped to fall suddenly brim - edge triumph success; victory Discuss that the selection they are about to read is about butterfly- a story of a monarch butterfly. Explain. f. How does miracle works to you? In your life now, what are the things or events that you consider a miracle? The teacher will discuss the word butterfly. The word butterfly is actually a compound word.

Discussion of compound words Compound words are formed when two or more words are combined to form a new word. Compound words not joined by a hyphen are called solid compound (oatmel, typewriter) while words join by a hyphen called hyphenated compounds(brother-in-law). Separate or open compound are words written separately such as sea salt and credit card. Examples Why do we even bother with a hyphen? To avoid confusion. Examples Recap a. Group activity The class will be divided into four groups. The activity is compose of three parts. Each group will be given activity sheets and answer sheets. The first one to correctly answer each activity will be the one to earn the point. Exercise 3: A Sneaky Puzzle Match one word from each of the two columns to make a new word. This puzzle is sneaky because the one of the letters in the original words seems to disappear in pronouncing the new word.
