3. LS3000 Installation & Setup

Make sure that power for all equipment is off before making connections. Making connections while power is on may cause damages. A keyboard/bump bar is required for LS3000 setup. After system component placement and cabling, set up each LS3000 using the following procedure: 1 2 3 4 5 Attach the monitor, keyboard/bumpbar, power supply, and optional RS232 device to the LS3000. Plug in the monitor and the LS3000 power supply to an AC power source with surge protection and switch ON the monitor. Reset the LS3000 by pressing the reset button at the front panel with a pointed device. After pressing RESET, within 5 seconds, press up or down arrow on the keyboard/bumpbar to navigate the setup menu. Verify that the values in the banner message box at the top of the 2 screen for RAM Test and E PROM Status are OK. If the values are other than OK, repeat step 3 and 4. If this fails to resolve the problem, replace the unit. Logic Station address setup a. Select Address Setup from the menu using up or down arrow keys. Press ENTER to open the input area. b. Enter the assigned unique, 2-digit Logic Station address in the range between 00 and 15. c. Press ENTER to accept. d. Verify that the address you entered appears at the top left in the banner message box. Press CTRL to exit the LS3000 setup menu. You have now completed the setup for one LS3000. Repeat as necessary for each LS3000 in the system, ensuring a unique address for each LS3000. Always verify your input in the banner message box at the top of the panel.

Installation of the LM3000 Series is covered in 5a, while installation of the LM3000E Series is covered in 5b.

1. Planning System Configurations

The proper configuration for Logic Net is a loop. Total RS485 cable length is not to exceed 1220 m (4000 ft.). CAT5 cables should be used. The loop configuration provides redundancy and is, therefore, more reliable. A loop configuration starts with an LM3000, which then has an LS3000 attached to it. Another LS3000 is attached to the previous LS3000, and so on, ending with the last LS3000 attaching back to the LM3000. A break in a cable between any two devices would break the loop, but communication would still be possible between the LM3000 and all LS3000s. This is possible because both RS485 ports on the LM3000 communicate information from the host at the same time. Note: Simple chain configurations starting from each RS485 port on the LM3000 is not recommended. The connections must be in a loop form.

4. LS3000 Diagnostic Program

Each time the LS3000 is powered on, it runs a ROM-based setup and diagnostic program that is used to set system parameters and provide problem determination information. You can run the program by pressing the system RESET button. As soon as the diagnostic menu appears, quickly press the up arrow or the down arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight the required function. Press ENTER to select the function. After the setting or test is complete, exit by pressing CTRL key.

Sample Loop Configuration Figure 1 Make sure that power for all equipment is off before making connections. Making connections while power is on may cause damages. 1 2 Attach the LM3000 to an enabled RS232 port on the host server with RS232 cable. The LM3000 is then connected to the network of LS3000 I/O units via RS485 cable loop. The connections must be in a loop form with Cat 5 cables. (See Figure 1) Attach the power supply to the LM3000. Plug the power supply into an AC power source with surge protection. A lit LED on the front of the LM3000 indicates that power is ON.

2. Mounting LS3000 & LM3000 Units

Mounting brackets are provided to facilitate mounting the LS3000 & LM3000 to a wall. The installer should ensure that the wall anchors used with the mounting brackets have the capacity to support 4.3 kg (9.5 lb.). This weight is determined by adding a safety margin weight to the weight of the unit. Wall anchors that specify weight capacity are available commercially.

4 Reset the LM3000 (using pointed device to press the RESET button at the front panel). The LM3000 should now recognize the attached LS3000s. The banner message box on the top of all the LS3000 monitors should show Control Status as Present.

5b. LM3000E Series Installation & IP Setup

Make sure that power for all equipment is off before making connections. Making connections while power is on may cause damage. 1 2 The LM3000E Ethernet port has to be connected to the server computer via an Ethernet hub. The LM3000E is then connected to the network of LS3000 I/O units via RS485 cable loop. The connections must be in a loop form with Cat 5 cables. (See Figure 2) Connect at least one I/O unit (with VGA display connected) to the LM3000E and connect the LM3000E/LM3008E to the Ethernet LAN (as shown in Figure 2). Power on the I/O unit. At power on of LM3000E, the current IP address and port number are shown on the I/O unit VGA display. Record the original PC IP address. Then set the computers IP address to same IP group (that is, the first 3 octet numbers has to match exactly) as the LM3000E current IP shown on the LS3000 VGA screen. Refer to the procedures outlined in the operating systems manual for setting the computers IP address. Run Telnet program on the server PC with connection to LAN. (For Windows, under command prompt, enter Telnet <IP address> where <IP address> is the current IP of the LM3000E displayed on the LS3000VGA screen). Enter command 1 with new IP address as parameter to enter new IP address for the unit. For example, enter 1 192.168.100.10 to change IP to 192.168.100.10. (Note: set IP address to same original IP group in your network. You may need to check with network administrator for a free IP address). Check that the Current Configuration shows the required IP address. If necessary, change IP again with command 1. Then, enter command 4 to save settings. To cancel the IP changes made in this session, enter command 0 to quit without save. Set the server PC back to original network IP address recorded down in step 2. Note:

Figure 2

Simple chain configurations starting from each RS485 port on the LM3000E is not recommended. The connections must be in a loop form.

6. LEDs on Front Panel (LM3008, LM3008E, LM3016, LM3016E only)

The 8 LEDs on front panel of LM3008E indicates status of I/O units from address 0 to 7. If more than 8 stations are needed, model LM3016E is available with 16 LEDs. When the LED is off, the corresponding I/O unit is off-line. When the LED is on or blinking, the corresponding I/O unit is on-line. Check the I/O unit connections if any active LS3000 is not shown with correct LED status. One or more LEDs blinking indicates a cable break or loose connection. While the system still works with all on-line stations under this single cable fault condition, the blinking LEDs alert you to a cable connection failure that has to be remedied. The location of the cable break can be easily identified. The group of blinking LEDs shows that this segment of network is disconnected from the rest of the network segment with steadily ON LEDs.

After IP address has been changed, the LM3000E will run with the new IP address automatically. The new IP address will be shown on the I/O unit VGA display. Remark: If Telnet shows double characters when typing in commands & parameters, its due to local echo being set to on. To eliminate the double characters, set local echo to off. (Enter Telnet in command prompt to start Telnet and enter command unset local_echo for Windows 2000 or unset localecho for Windows XP. Enter quit to exit Telnet.)
