t is rare that one has the opportunity to use software which, because of its excellence, brings smiles and

feelings of real satisfaction to the user and whoever may be observing the operation. This package is one of those very rare ones! It helps if the user is a 'student' of Gann trading methods, but that is not absolutely necessary. This software was created by a commodity trader, a student of Gann and an accomplished computer programmer. This most unusual creative combination furnishes for the first time a comprehensive package of graphics and number crunching aimed directly at Gann traders. Had this software package been available three years ago when I purchased the Gann Commodity Trading Course and subsequently attended one of the first of Billy Jones' Gann Seminars, much frustration and wasted

time could have been avoided. Perhaps this program should be required material for anyone contemplating the study of Gann methods! Ganntrader I contains a high-speed operating system called Diversi-DOS which substantially reduces the time necessary to load lengthy data files and perform calculations. The speed of the graphics dumped to the printer is limited by the size of the printer buffer available in your system. Ganntrader I is not copy protected and may be backed up by the use of the COPYA program. The use of a wide carriage printer (132-136) is much to be preferred, however by scale manipulation available to the user, the 80 column printer will operate satisfactorily. Error trapping is provided in sufficient degree to prevent all but the most determined user from hanging the program. Ganntrader I plotting programs load standard Quicktrieve/CSI/Computrac format data disks. Ganntrader I will plot up to 300 records. . . daily, weekly, etc., from these standard formats. The Ganntrader I program is divided into three plotting modules which are output to the printer, three computing modules which at this time are displayed on the monitor, and one utility module for manipulating data files, converting daily files to weekly files and adding or deleting data files. Computrac Binary Data Blocks are handled, as well as the standard Quicktrieve/ASCII format. The plotting modules provide for 1) Gann style price bars superimposed on the familiar 1212 plotting grid,2) Squares of 52,90,144 or any other size overlaid on top of the bar chart along with 1/8, 1/4, 1/3, 3/8, 1/2, etc. points clearly marked on both the price and time scales, and finally, 3) a planetary position program (geocentric) which plots a linear representation of the longitudinal position of eight planets superimposed on the price chart. More about this third plotting module later. The three computing modules provide the means to 1) compute Price and Time squared points allowing for any size square displaying full and fractional parts of squares for days, weeks, months or price including a notation of elapsed time from the turning points selected by the user; 2) compute the SQUARE OF NINE, Gann's Master Time and Price Chart, displaying 90, 45 and 22.5 degree points for either time or price; and 3) compute Gann's Hexagon Chart displaying the 90, 60 and 30 degree points for price or time. Each of these computing modules displays the calculations obtained on the monitor only, but future versions will include a printing program. Concerning the planetary plotting program mentioned above: many traders and students of Gann have for their own reasons elected to avoid the study of astrology as it may be related to markets. Indeed Gann never wrote or published a word about astrology. To my way of thinking, however, it is evident from the large hoard of Gann's working papers and charts, presently owned by Billy Jones, that astrology or some expression of that art was constantly in Gann's calculations. Accordingly Ganntrader I contains the planetary plotting program, but does not make any effort to push astrology or to seek causative explanations. Correlations between planetary travel and relative position are easy to observe against price behavior and these correlations are indeed fascinating to me. The documentation of Ganntrader I is elegant in its simplicity and brevity. Each program module is clearly explained as to its operation and desired results. An appendix containing nineteen sample charts, among other useful information, is included.

A brief bibliography listing books about astrology and related subjects is also included. The Utility module provides the user with the means to convert daily to weekly data, delete files, rename files and several other useful features. The current version, 1.2b, of Ganntrader I is the third iteration of the original version. This has been supplied to each registered owner without charge, and represents the excellent technical support available from the publisher.

The one potentially serious shortcoming of this software is that a user may become too engrossed in its operation and begin to think of running the program as an end in itself, forgetting that the purpose of the tool is to make money. One final noteit is probably not necessary, but I wish to disclaim any relationship of blood, marriage or profit with the author, publisher and/or distributor of Ganntrader I. I just can't find any substantive negative comments about the package. Happy trading!
