Executive Summary KYIFCD is a Youth Based Community Organization that seeks to empower the youth to embark on tackling the socio-economic and environmental challenges. The organization pursues a holistic approach to solving the slum youth problem in Kibera. Our approach seeks to develop the youth spiritually, mentally, morally, physically and economically to ensure it brings out and maximizes their potential within there current social-environment and beyond. Kenya is one of the least developed countries with a very high birth rate. By equipping the youth today with the much-needed relevant tools, we will bring out a responsible, sustainable wealth-creating individual rather than a dependant. The necessary training, mentoring, information and opportunities must be given in order for this to happen. Kibera, a densely populated area of Nairobi, Kenya, is labeled a slum within which you find laughing children; the energy of people striving to make at least a dollar per day; the effort of young people to put themselves through school; the community spirit and the willingness to help each other. These are strong disciplines by the people on which to build an implementable solid and structured vision. It is with this in mind that we in KYIFCD embark on a One Week Youth camp. This proposal seeks to raise awareness and funds for the One week camp. We however choose to highlight to the partners of what there contribution to the camp will give birth to; A post Camp strategy of ensuring that the gains in the camp is not lost. The budget therefore does not reflect the post camp strategy. Mission: Developing Young Leaders and Holistic Wealth Creators. Vision: Transforming the Stepping Stones (Disciplines) into Spiritual Growth and Self Empowerment. Objective: Reinforcing, Equipping and Implementing principles of life, for socialeconomic and environmental transformation. Goals: 1. Holistic Empowerment Youth Camp 2. Training and Taxidi* Camp plus. 3. Empowerment in Wealth Creation 4. Partnership Development. Clientele: Youth age 14 24

The primary method 1. Facilitate Yearly Youth Camp. 2. Establishing a Camping Facility (Called Taxidi Camp Center) 3. Run a Weekly Taxidi Youth Program of Praise, Worship, Discipleship and Mentoring. 4. Documentation and archiving of the transformation thereby experienced. 5. Evaluation (formative and Comprehensive) Conclusion We believe that the activities at camp enshrine within the capsule of Discipleship, Skills Development, Missionary type exchange and Mentoring would result to an all rounded wholesome approach to life for the Youth of Kibera.

1. Preamble KYIFCD Camp seeks to empower the Youth with spiritual and self empowerment skills that bring about a movement of transformed Youth through application of Godly wisdom, vision and practical development parameters. Given the foundational disciplines and empowerment skills the energetic young mind and body can engage forcefully and rightfully to bring an end to the decline to poverty and moral standards in the society. The Country Kenya is blessed with over 60 % Young people, in the midst of unrealized resources and potential. KYIFCD there for exist to engage the youth positively to bring home grown solutions to these social-economic and environmental challenges. With incentives of spiritual, academic, talent training and some start up capital the youth can engage creatively and innovatively to create wealth. Gunny bags can be transformed into gardens for food, Environmental Waste can be transformed into Wealth, Stones and dirt into blocks for housing just to mentioned a few. We need Information and much information accompanied with transferable technology and with the help of God we can bring the change we deserve and change the spiritual and political landscape to realize the social-economic and environmental transformation. 2. Problem statement Kibera, a densely populated area of Nairobi, Kenya, is labeled a slum. This conjures up images of poverty, depression, ragged children playing in dirt, idle adults and violent young people. While, to an extent, these are all real pictures, images often dont present the laughing children; the energy of people striving to make a at least a dollar per day; the effort of young people to put themselves through school; the community spirit and the willingness to help each other. These are strong disciplines by the people on which to build an implement-able solid structured and vision. This proposal seeks to present the tools which can be used to construct one. With financial assistance, Discipleship, Evangelism and Mentoring done in the spirit of Partnership and Youth Participation we can assist many people to rise above the challenges and become Wealth Creators.

As the details below will show Kibera, houses upwards of 350,000 people crammed into a small area of about one square mile. Therefore, it is important to aim resources at the cadre of people who will form the future of Kenya. This proposal therefore focuses on the young males and females between the ages of 14-24 years. We have identified two approaches which will work with young people to help them refocus their mindsets. 1. Make them spiritually, mentally and socially stronger and more capable. 2. Give them informal skills and Incentives which will enable them compete for viable jobs and earn a good wage transforming there social-economic and environmental wellbeing. 3. Program Description KYIFCD Camp is a starting Point to provide Empowerment of the Youth with spiritual and skills that can bring about a movement of transformed Youth constituent. With the foundational disciplines and empowerment skills the energetic young mind and body can engage forcefully and rightfully to bring an end to the decline in moral standards in a society. Goals: 1. Holistic Empowerment Youth Camp This Camp will be the entry point for the Youth into the Post High School Guidance Training Drive (PHSGTD) The Camp will seek to give pre Guidance Training Drive, Which is a mix and test of things to be offered at the PHSGTD for the month of January and February. This Drive will give the participants and would be candidates an opportunity to experience Holistic life through training and personal development. Topical discourses in Bible application, Career Preparation, Work and Home skills, Leadership and mentoring, relationships, Sex and sexuality, personality and people skills, Communication, Strategic Planning and implementation, Investment and Budgeting etc. (See more explanation under the primary methods) 2. Training and Taxidi Camp Facility After The Holistic Empowerment camp qualified candidates showing high potential will be selected for the 2 PHSGTD Training Drive. This they will undertake for a period of 3 months with in-depth short courses. We envision this group of about 25 to 40 each year being award incentives to carry out there lifes dream as discovered during the training. The Topics mentioned in goal #1 plus others like marriage and family life will form the short courses offered.

We envision this training and equipping facility being the future camp site in order to minimize cost. This facility can also be used to accommodate other groups of like mind in equipping the Youth or there employee. This can be source of income to sustain the Mission, Vision and Objectives of Kibera Youth Initiative for community development. The success of the Post High School Training Drive will result to embarking on a post Primary Training Drive by 2012 3. Empowerment in Wealth Creation. KYIFCD will give grants in kind and loan incentives to the deserving youth to ensure that they reach there potential of wealth creation. We will also hold workshop and equip on Business management skills, Savings just to mention a few topics to be covered. We believe such young people assisted will result to poverty alleviation as and wealth creating and employment for their peers will be the order of they day. The result of this will be a society of mainly healthy middle class families. 4. Partnership Development. KYIFCD will seek Development Partnerships that seeks to transform the Young people into Future Leaders of the society. We realize that we cannot do this alone so the need of partners. The KYIFCD Funding both locally and abroad. This funding sought will be both in Kind and monetary as needs beyond its reach arise. 5. Clientele: Youth ages 14 24. This age within the Kibera slums is said to be Highly at Risk. With the poverty level being high in this Country those living in slums are very much at risk especially the girl child. She will engage in child Labour, prostitution or early marriage in order to fend for the family, while the male child will also engage in child Labour, crime and even male prostitution to get some food. KYIFCD seeks to arrest this situation as early as is possible even at age 9. We there for envision bringing together 100 participants of young people to develop them holistically.

The primary methods of engaging the Youths are This program will take care of 100 participants during the one week camp 1. Facilitate Yearly Youth Camp. 2. Establishing a Camping Facility (Called Taxidi Camp Center) 3. Run a Weekly Taxidi Youth Program of Praise, Worship, Discipleship and Mentoring. 4. Documentation and archiving of the transformation thereby experienced. 5. Evaluation (formative and Comprehensive)

4. Detailed Program Implementation

1. Facilitate Yearly Youth Camp Drive Camping is one of a number of transformative training programs designed by (KYIFCD) to enhance personal development and assist people find the potential they inherently have been given by God. Camping as a new approach being used by (KYIFCD) has been created especially for young people teenagers; students; who have so much capabilities and some come from very humble background hence have never had any opportunity to venture into new territories to explore their spirituality and to have a serene environment where they can just be young people to have fun and fully utilize their talents while having fun through creative sporting activities and digging dip into the word of God. Camping program in Kenya dubbed Kenya best one week is instrumental in having the young people understand how their mind works and how negative opinions of themselves are formed and how that can contribute to their failure in life. It then clearly illustrates ways in which this state can be changed around through using very practical tools. With 100 young people coming together from all walk of challenged lifestyle we realize with the right tools and support we can bring the needed change. The effectiveness of these tools can be seen as young people learn: How to manage and effect significant change The love of God Modern trends of technology and how this affects our walk with Christ How to change negative behaviors How to release untapped potential To empower self and others To take accountability of Ones actions To consistently set and achieve challenging goals To motivate oneself over a sustained period To flourish in new environments To develop leadership and communication skills, especially for leaders where these skills are not natural To move from individual to team thinking and team development methodology To understand the need to live peacefully with others and the need to have conflict resolution skills. See time table for more information. 2. Camping methodology In order to address the issue of poverty, disillusionment and lack of selfesteem there is need to actively engage the young people in the slums especially those who face different challenges like orphans, school drop outs, and those who already engage themselves in vices like prostitution and experimenting with drugs because this are the back bone of our nation and the moral decay is taking a toile on the young people and we are losing the young soldiers of Christ hence the time to put on our royal armor and to stand and be counted by winning this souls back to Christ by restoring hope and the faith back to Christ. The camping program consist of five steps 1. personal assessment of faith and setting of goals

2. The role of religion and God in ones life 3. Sports and physical fitness 4. Team building and networking within the camp 5. Setting up of cell groups and programs for follow up after camp The camp is based on a module from a well renowned camp in America called summers best two weeks which uses the camping experience to reach out to young people and to make them realize the love of God for them hence develop a love and the passion to serve him in the process making the community a better place and better Christian that acts as a role model and an example for others to see and emulate in the society. Africa is gradually losing its young people due to the regional conflicts that are facing it and lack of employment and poverty that is driving its young people into crime and drugs hence the need to come up with solutions that can counter this hence the camping programme. 3. The establishment of a camping facility The approach that has been mentioned above has a facility which will be established as part of the program. This facility will be based in Nakuru which is a town 110 km from the capital city based on its serenity and it will provide the participants with the peace of mind away from the city for reflection and to be able to enjoy nature at his best and it also has good sporting facilities to enable camping to take place while the participants experience Gods love and purpose for them in their lives. This facility was also chosen to ease financial, transport and access difficulties young people may have. This Camping facility will be used for a) Yearly Camp Dubbed Kenya best one week I. God and Bible application II. Career Preparation III. Work and Home skills IV. Leadership and mentoring V. Relationships VI. Sex and sexuality VII. Personality and people skills VIII. Communication IX. Strategic Planning and implementation X. Investment and Budgeting etc. Through the grace of God we intend to take about 100 young people through camping for one week as a pilot project, after which an intense evaluation will be conducted to ascertain the level of success and identify areas for improvement as the project moves forward to a further phase. This may entail acquiring a property in the future to make a full time ministry reaching out to kids through camping in Kenya. Methodology The programme is based on Mathew 28:19, saying go out to all nations and make them my disciples.we intend to win as

many souls as possible for Christ because it is only through him that we are made perfect. With the grace of God we intend to implore the different approaches that have been mentioned above with the hope that the young people in this programme will come to realize Gods purpose for them in their lives. Kyifcd an institution has a network of volunteers who would be more than willing to share with this participants and it is also worth mentioning that some of our well-wishers who are students in America and also served at summers best two weeks in America. and who will also help in fund raising have expressed interest in joining us for the camp and we feel this will also provide a good opportunity for cultural experience amongst the young people. The programme offered in this initiative will be provided free of charge or will require a minimum commitment fee. Where applicable, the commitment fee may be offset by the participation of the trainees in various community development activities, such as cleaning and up-lifting of their living environment organizing for bible studies in their cell groups, participation in Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) for HIV/AIDS and various awareness raising activities pertinent to the life of young people in slums (such as reproductive health, human rights and others). The target audience of this initiative has been defined by a set of criteria based on the findings of an assessment of young people living in slums carried out in the preparation of this initiative. The following criteria indicators - which will ensure that this initiative effectively reaches marginalized youth - include age, educational situation, community engagement, and gender. Age: This initiative will focus on and invest in younger youth aged 14 to 24. At the same time, the initiative will leave ample resources with the participants like bibles, reference books and materials. Networking groups and other resources deemed necessary to strengthen the process. Educational situation: One of the key selection criteria will be the level of access to education opportunities or the lack thereof. Preference will be given to out-of-school youth with the aim of providing them with new skills which will increase their chances of finding valuable employment and also attention will be given to young people who are actively engaged in their church programmes to improve their capacity. Community work: The third criteria that will guide the selection of the participants will be their involvement in voluntary community work. Priority will be given to youth who are members of CBOs since these young people have already demonstrated a desire to help their communities and have manifested leadership skills. Programmes offered in this initiative will allow them to build their skills and further contribute to their communities. Gender: Special emphasis will be given to female students who are oftentimes absent from youth programs as a result of numerous obstacles they face in realizing their educational goals. This initiative will insist on gender equality as far as enrolment in camping programs is concerned. Where necessary, single sex courses will be encouraged and supported. Guided by these criteria indicators, the selection of participants will be conducted exclusively by the staff of kibera youth initiative for community development. The implementation of this initiative is structured in two distinct phases, the set-up phase and the long term phase. The expected outcomes of the initial set-up phase of this initiative are as follows:

1. The establishment of camp in Nakuru which is away from the city and the usual challenges this young people encounter in their lives aims at providing a conducive environment for discussions and to enjoy nature at its best while receiving the spiritual nourishment from the word of God. 2. The young people will come from different backgrounds and ethnicities hence they will have an opportunity to share their cultures and faith and this will foster peaceful co-existence and strong bonds among the participants which we hope will over flow to the rest of the country and eventually the whole of Africa. 3. The participants will be exposed to bible studies and testimonies of the different facilitators in the programme in the hope that the may realize the love of God for us and what He is doing in our lives with the hope that a seed will be planted in them to have the heart of service of God and His people and to also reach out to others. The initial set-up phase and the pilot run of the programs with 100 participants is expected to be completed within a period of 2 months this includes the fundraising and the initial camp itself. Following the successful completion of the setup-phase, this effective approach will then be scaled up through continuation of the operation through an established camping facility, and through establishment of camping facilities in Kibera and other Nairobis slum areas including Mathare, Eastilegh, Kangemi, Kawangware will be able to benefit from this in the future. The new camping facility will be established in cooperation with youth organizations in the Nairobi slums and churches utilizing their existing youth support programmes resources. The scale-up phase is expected to operate with financial support from donors for a period of two years, after which strategies for self-sustainability will be put in place to ensure continuous operation and expansion. We envision this camp giving birth to candidates for the 3 months Training Drive. Below is a graph detailing the time table and implementation plan. This Time table will facilitate the week long Camp Activities. Some activities will be carried out away from the camping site for greater impact of impartation. 4. Post Camp Follow-up Strategy 1. We in KYIFCD will develop servant leaders of our youth to take up a leading role in Godly
community transformation and development. In order to realize the social-economic and environmental change we need to all come together for this to happen in our time. Our Poverty situations can only be blamed on abandoning our natural God given Creative and innovative nature and signing it off to others. Our belief is that the most effective way of addressing the challenges of the life in slums is through involving and mobilizing the young people to take center stage in a meaningful social, economic, and leadership development of their communities
