ESSENTIAL AND NON-ESSENTIAL SERVICE

Onboard equipment is classified by Naval Registers considering the importance of its specific service. Two services are defined:
essential and non-essential.
The former identifies all those services that are continuously operating and are fundamental to maintain propulsion and steering of
vessels.
Some examples of equipment classified as for primary and secondary essential service are the following:
Steering gears
Pump for controllable switch propellers
Fuel valve cooling pumps
Water pumps for main and auxiliary engines
Azimuth thrusters
Speed regulators for main and auxiliary engines
Windlasses
Fuel oil transfer pumps
Lubrication oil treatment
Fire-extinguishing medium pumps
Services to maintain dangerous cargo in safe conditions
Sea water pumps
Different test procedures are required depending on the rated power of the machine and its service.

CLASSIFICATION SOCIETIES
MarelliMotori motors are compatible with the standards requested by the IACSs members (as of May 2004):
ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, GL, KR, LR, NK, RINA, RS.

BEARINGS AND LUBRICATION INTERVALS

The theoretical lifetime of bearings, L10h according to ISO 281/1 Standard, of horizontal construction motors in standard configuration,
without external forces (radial and/or axial) is in excess of 50,000 hours.
The lifetime of bearings is determined by multiple factors and specifically by: the lifetime of the grease, the environmental conditions,
the external loads and vibrations.
The cast iron and aluminium motors d132 frame size mount respectively double sealed and double screen deep-groove ball bearings
greased for life. The corresponding grease life under normal operating conditions for a motor with horizontal shaft, at 50Hz and
maximum ambient temperature of 45C is:
10000h for 2-pole motors,
20000h for t4-pole motors.
Aluminium motors frame 160-250 have single screen prelubricated bearings greased for life.
Aluminium motors frame 280-315S and cast iron motors frame 160-400 have regreasable bearings.
Regreasing system is made of grease nipples Tecalemit UNI type and corresponding exhaust grease drainage closed by a metallic tap.
Aluminium motors frame 160-250 can be supplied with a regreasing system on request.
The lubrication intervals of motors without a regreasing system and the relubrication intervals of motors with regreasing system are
shown in the tables below. The shown values refer to normal operating conditions for a motor horizontally mounted at ambient
temperature of 45C.

Double speed motors have two separate windings, both star connected.
For different connections and or different supplies contact MarelliMotori.
Maximum Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) level admitted on supplied voltages is 10%. Higher harmonic distortion levels cause an
increase in the temperature rise of the motors. In those cases the power outputs need be derated and verified by MarelliMotori.

POLARITIES
In addition to the polarities shown in the data tables (2, 4, 6, 8 poles for single speed and 4/8, 4/6 for double speed) the following ones
are available on request:
10, 12 and higher;
2/4, 6/8 and higher.

TEMPERATURE RISE CLASS AND AMBIENT TEMPERATURE

The electrical data tables given in the present catalogue refer to motors with a temperature rise class F at a maximum ambient
temperature of 45C.
For lower temperature rise class or higher ambient temperature the power outputs need to be derated.
