Reconstruction

It was the process readmitting the confederate states to the union. The south rebuilds. It also wanted to fix culture and economy

It damaged the south because cities and towns were destroyed. And the confederates money made the southerners not worth anything. Violence clever legislation, inequality.

Ten percent plan

It was to offer the southern people amnesty and or official pardon for supporting the rebellion.

It made the southerners sear on oath to be loyal to the united states. And they also had to agree that slavery was illegal.

Thirteen Amendment

It made slavery illegal throughout the united states.

William Lloyd Garrison was building what is known as the Anti-Slavery Society.

Freedmans Bureau

It was an agency that provided relief not only for freedpeople and other certain poor people. But also white fugitives.

Its law was against educating the slaves, which meant freedpeople never learned how to read or write.

Andrew Jackson

He was planning to bring the southern states back into the union it was kind of similar to what Lincoln wanted.

But after everything that wasnt what happened. He wanted wealthy southerners and former confederate officials to have a presidential pardon

Section 2 Black code

It was laws that greatly limited the freedoms of African Americans.

But in southern states if they did not prove they had jobs their punishment was 1 year without pay. And they could not rent they had to live in the cities.

Radical republicans

civil rights act of 1866

They took harsh stance with people. constantly forcing the government to change in the south It provided African Americans with the same legal rights as the white people had.

But the republicans wanted federalists more involved in reconstruction.

The president vetoed it and didnt allow it to happen just because it gave the federalist to much power.

Fourteenth amendment

The civil rights act might have been overturned. And the republicans protested. It guaranteed citizenship. It divided the south into five districts.

It actually helped people but not all of them only some people had the natural rights.

Finally it gave the African Americans freedom to vote.

Impeachment

Its the process used by the legislative body by bringing charges of wrongdoing to a stop.

Some thought that it was a bad thing that the impeachment was passed.

Fifteen amendment

It gave African Americans men the right to vote in elections and not women.

It was actually did not please every reformer. But women were angry because it did not grant them the right to vote like the men.

Ram Revels

He took over the seat previously of confederate of president Jefferson Davis. He was born in a free slave state.

It helped the government by giving the people more ideas for what the government should do.

Ku Klux Klan

This secret opposed civil rights, it particularly suffrage, for the African Americans.

It used violence and it also terrified African Americans because they were against the black people.

Compromise of 1877

Democratic agreed to accept Hayes victory. But in return they wanted the federal troops removed from the south.

What it did was not that but different things. Like they did not remove the troops from the south.

Poll tax

Its a special tax that people had to pay before they could vote.

The bad thing is that they had to pay before voting which sucked.

Segregation

Whites and Americans couldnt be in the same place

The people could not do anything together if they wanted to.

Jim Crow laws

This law is supposed to enforce the segregation law.

African americans did not like what was happening. They wanted freedom.

Plessy v. Ferguson

Segregation was allowed if facilities were providing.

John Marshall thought it was a bad idea what Plessey v. Ferguson.

Sharecropping

Sharing the crop. And land owners.

It was bad for the African American people because they had to work more.

$o acres and a mule The government never came up with their promise.
