Topical Sermon Outline

I have chosen to do this sermon outline based on the Great Commission. I chose this
topic to write on because I feel that a lot of times people in churches tend to get a bit
lazy and do not bother all that much with talking to "secular" people about Jesus
because they say God hasn't called them to do so, or that they do not feel like God is
telling them to go and talk to so-and-so or certain people. I intend the sermon to try
and get across the message that God has called us over 2000 years ago when Jesus
gave the Great Commission to His disciples to go into all the world and make
followers of all people.

• Title: The Great Commission

• Introduction:
Introduce the message with the title; say that I will be talking about the Great
Commission and what that actually means to us today.
• Scriptural Link:
Say that the Great Commission is found in Matthew 28: 19-20 and in Mark 16:
15-16. Read it out.
• Bridge/Link:
Go on to say that although the Bible does not specifically call it the "Great
Commission", it sure is aptly named since it really is 'great' in every sense of
the word!
• Point 1; Mention sub-headings:
o A Great Task:
Expound parts of the verse in Matthew: "Go therefore and make disciples
of all nations" NRSV
Talk about how this can be quite a daunting task to do and is often not as
easy as it sounds; but that by relying on the Holy Spirit we will be able to
accomplish the task ahead.

o A Great Privilege:
Talk about how, although a big task, it is also a big privilege to have this
calling on us by God; that He has actually called us to go and work for Him
in making Him known - and better still, "remember, I am with you always, to
the end of the age." NRSV
• Point 3:
o A Great Reward:
Remind the people that when God calls us to do something for Him, He
blesses us in return if we have obeyed His commands. As it is recorded in
Mark 16: 17-18: the Disciples were blessed with Jesus' power working
through them confirming all they said and did.
• Conclusion:
Sum up by saying that even though you may not have heard from God directly
telling you to do something, Jesus' commands are always there to follow.
Finish on a thought with Acts 20: 24.
