PC TROUBLESHOOTING HARDWARE & DRIVER ISSUE 1) NO DISPLAY (LAPTOP) What to Check?

(note : most laptop manufacturer provide built in feature to identify keyboard problem from boot up screen, by performing diagnostic steps, you may want to try this prior to follow below steps) a) 1st Check power source - OK How? Check if you can see light indicator lighted ON power adaptor. If YES, Power adaptor is working fine, else, fix another type of power adaptor on the socket to ensure that power source producing power from the socket.

b) 2nd Check power indicator on laptop. Can you see indication light on power button or hard disk turned ON? This should be normally above keyboard or at the edge of laptop.

If both above items turn out to be OK, then the problem is not related to power, you have now successfully narrowed down the problem to built in display card

c) Try fixing external monitor (LCD) to the laptop, to determine the status of onboard VGA. Did LCD screen showed any display? If your answer is YES, problem is related to LCD screen which require replacement, whereas NO should result you to change onboard display card.

(Note : Sometime, problem may reside on the software, you can troubleshoot further on this matter, by going to SAFE MODE option. System should display output via default driver in the event problem is not related to hardware. Next step is to download the appropriate drive driver from manufacturer CD or Internet to solve the problem. )

Try reducing the display resolution, screen refresh rate (60Hz) or DPI settings

2) NO DISPLAY (DESKTOP)

What to Check? (note : Go to BIOS setting to ensure display is turned ON and active) a) 1st Check power source of Monitor - OK How? Change the power cable and try fixing the LCD at different power source.

b) Change the VGA cable One should be able to see the display if the issue is related to cables. If NOT, please follow below steps

c) Relocate the same LCD screen to another PC

If above items turn out to be OK, then the problem is not related to power, you have now successfully narrowed down the problem to display card

d) Try fixing external PCI card to the board and connect the VGA monitor (LCD) to it. Should you see display, then conclusion is the built in VGA has spoiled.
